Tetherball 07-08-2005, 03:52 PM Well hi there Walmoe1. Why we were practically kin at one time  I've been meaning to head on down to "Duke City" soon. I want to take my daughter to the BioPark! She has never been to the zoo. I know, bad mommy, but I'm trying! 8)

By the way, what is meant by the term Duke City? Just curious! :)

I imagine you're talking about the Rio Grande Zoological Gardens-I haven't been there for years (since my adult children were little) but every time I went there it was always better. I think the two of y'all will really dig it.

Albuquerque is a region (I think like a state) in Spain that was governed by a duke. Albuquerque N.M. has been called "The Duke City" as long as I can remember.
RedClownFred 07-11-2005, 02:07 PM Thanks for the geography lesson Walmoe! I had no idea! See how we can learn much more than just clowning on CLOWN FORUM! :D

Hi Red Clown Fred! Thanks for the compliment! Though I don't know if there is an "official" story, some people say Albuquerque is called "Duke City" after Mexican viceroy Francisco Fernandez de la Cueva, the Duke of Alburquerque back in the 1700s (I think there was originally an extra R in there). "Duke City" is what some of us locals call it! You can also call Albuquerque beautiful if you like!

I heard that about the "extra R" also Tetherball My (1/2 hispanic) wife reminded me of that the other day.

This is a great place to hang out and learn. At one point they had a chat room which I'm hoping will be restored! HIN HIN HINT...
