View Full Version : Just ordered some new shoes
Perry Noia 12-29-2008, 06:56 PM I just ordered some new clown shoes... not super quality, but I was concerned that I couldn't fit my orthotics inside my converse because I ordered them for wide shoes and the converse don't come in wide widths.... so anyway, I figure if I have to I can put some double stick tape or something to hold them in the right place inside these... they are cute and the price was good too...

BlossomTheClown 12-29-2008, 07:33 PM They are cute! Who did you order them from? Let us know how they work out.
Perry Noia 12-29-2008, 07:48 PM ebay!! searched "clown shoes pink" ... they came up on top :D
Fitzwilly 12-29-2008, 09:04 PM Noia - Be sure and reinforce where the strap meets the shoe on both sides. The vinyl is rather thin. It is a good looking shoe.
Perry Noia 12-29-2008, 09:09 PM what's the best way to do that? adhesive mole skin fabric?
Lolly Plop 12-29-2008, 10:26 PM They are so cute, and they are gonna look great with your costume.
Artsy 12-30-2008, 05:14 PM Lookin' pretty there, Perry!
Wally Woo Hoo 12-30-2008, 09:20 PM Those are cute!! Let us know how they are.
Jooniper 12-31-2008, 04:03 PM They are SUPER cute ^_^

I don't have a good answer for you on this one Perry but I like the name of the product that you suggested.
Perry Noia 12-31-2008, 06:54 PM Moleskin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moleskin)
it's essentially like felt with tape on the back... you use it inside your shoes to prevent blisters
Love those shoes!! So amazingly cute! :D
Perry Noia 01-06-2009, 09:14 AM THEY'RE HERE!!!! THEY'RE HERE!!!!!
As expected with a "one size fits all" shoe, I'll need to do some padding and adjusting and I'll have to find a way to keep my orthotics from sliding all over the place. But they look cool. They aren't actually as big as I thought they would be for some reason, but that's actually better I think, I should be able to walk in these without killing myself ;)
When I get at chance I'll take some pictures with my costume on... I kind of need some updated pictures anyway since I've added about 6 more pockets onto my pinafore since my last pictures, so things look a little different already.
Pickles 01-06-2009, 09:34 AM Congrats, Perry. The arrival of a clown's first pair of shoes is a very exciting event and reason to celebrate! Can't wait to see them with your costume.
Perry Noia 01-06-2009, 10:20 AM I guess I won't be wearing my wedding shoes anymore ;)
Hahaha.
chatterstheclown 01-06-2009, 11:36 AM Perry, these look almost exactly like my 1st pair, except that mine were solid bubble gum pink color. I LOVED the way they looked and what I did to keep them on was put a pair of hard soled house slippers (the kind that look like balet shoes) on under my clown socks. They are thin enough that no one ever knew I was wearing anything under my socks but they offered a little extra support. The clown shoes still "flopped" when I walked, but not as bad. Like I said...I LOVED the look of these...but I did have a couple of problems that you might watch for:
1) The black soles wore off on the tops of the light pink shoe and left scuff marks that I couldn't get off (however, with yours being printed it wouldn't be so obvious)
2) For some reason, my back would hurt really bad if I wore these for too long. My feet never hurt, just my back...I guess that maybe it just threw off my posture or something?
3) The holes on the buckles wore out quick & I had to buckle them on a different hole. They never liked to stay buckled well anyway, so be careful not to fall down if they do come un-buckled. I wore mine for a long time this way, but it was annoying having to always stop and rebuckle them. Eventually the entire buckle broke completely in half and then I figured it was time to toss them. I bought a pair off off-brand Croc type shoes for $6 just to get me by, but decided that I kinda like them & am st ill using them.
Hopefully yours will work well for you. I like the print...very groovy :) and they will look great with your costume!
Perry Noia 01-06-2009, 11:48 AM Thanks! Nettie Belle mentioned a problem with keeping hers buckled too.... I'll see what I can do, if I have to, I'll put velcro all over them ;)
The orthotics that I will be putting in them should solve the back ache problem since that's what they are for in my regular shoes ;) I just have to pad the sides a little and find a way to keep my orthotics in one spot... I'm thinking either double stick tape (not my first choice since they will be in and out of these shoes and my regular sneakers) or using the aforementioned moleskin to outline the area where they should sit and hope that it's enough.
Whispers 01-06-2009, 01:58 PM very cute shoes...
Violet 01-06-2009, 03:41 PM I have some that look almost like those! I put a layer of foam (that I had left over from chair pads I had made - I save everything!), then put shoe pads on top of the foam.
Christopher Clown 01-06-2009, 05:07 PM Congrats on the new shoes!!! A Clown recieving their first pair of clown shoes is a wonderful scrapbook moment! I remember when I got my first pair last year.
Other than the red nose, the big shoes are what identify a clown! I can't tell you how many times I've walked through a group of people and instead of just hearing "Oh look a clown"... I hear "Oh ... Look at his shoes!"
I hope these shoes help you walk the clowny trail for a very successful New Year!
Congrats!
Perry Noia 01-06-2009, 07:11 PM Just thought I'd post my adjustments so far.... it might need more as time goes by, but it's better at least for now...
I took some mens insoles (just the cheap cushiony ones and traced my orthotics onto them. I cut a little inside of that line. I taped this down inside the shoes using moleskin (can be found in the footcare section of your local drug store). I also put moleskin around the back of the heel to keep it from slipping up and down when I wear them and on the inside of the straps to reinforce them a little. The last thing that I did was to cut a piece of the discarded insole sections and used moleskin to put it on the inside of the top edge that goes over my feet because the edge was sharp and stiff. It's still a little hard on that edge, but if I wear two paris of socks it should be good.
As I said, it might need a little more adjustments later, but it's better for now. They don't hug my feet as snugly as my sneakers, so it'll take some getting used to.

Well, maybe if you were dressed as a clown they wouldn't have thought the shoes were so funny.
Christopher Clown 01-06-2009, 07:32 PM Well I remember the first day I got my clown shoes I did walk down the street in them (out of clown) ... to see if I'd be able to walk in them. Sir Toony... again your observations amaze me.
Sir Toony Van Dukes 01-07-2009, 03:20 PM I have gone out in my colorful Adidas shoes when I have an Alley meeting or a Face Painting Jam (both not in clown) and always get comments on them.

saphireSue 01-07-2009, 03:22 PM oO I love them, they're cool.
I'm thinking about painting my shoes, they're just like the ones Sir Toony has up there and I want something more unique. Does anybody have any suggestions for what type of paint might hold up best? Would it be best to roughen up the surface before painting?
Wally Woo Hoo 01-07-2009, 04:34 PM YAh Perry!!! Can't wait to see them with your costume.
Now I want my first pair of clown shoes
Perry Noia 01-07-2009, 04:41 PM I'm thinking about painting my shoes, they're just like the ones Sir Toony has up there and I want something more unique. Does anybody have any suggestions for what type of paint might hold up best? Would it be best to roughen up the surface before painting?
The shoes I WAS using were converse that I had painted with craft paint... they held up just fine and I got lots of complements on them.... the only reason that I changed at all was because my orthotics wouldn't fit inside them.
Violet 01-07-2009, 04:58 PM I also painted a pair of canvas shoes. I used acrylic paint that can be used on fabric (the brand is Americana), and added Fabric Medium to it. You mix 2 parts paint to one part medium. They aren't as good as having Clownmart shoes, but they turned out pretty good! Here is what they look like:

Oops, thanks but I meant mine are like the big shiny red&yellow ones he has. They're leather so I don't think craft paint would work.
Oogls 01-07-2009, 05:19 PM I really like your shoes. where did you get them. They are really hip.
Perry Noia 01-07-2009, 07:06 PM I got mine from ebay... just search clown shoes and there are lots of choices that come up.... these were the only ones that matched my colour scheme.
Perry Noia 01-09-2009, 07:16 AM Ok, just making a couple last adjustments and thought I would share in case it helps someone else....
I took another pair of men's cushion insoles, flipped them upside down (because they are rubbery so they don't slip around on the bottom) and hot glued them into the bottom of my shoes.... this gives my orthotics a non-slip surface to sit in.
Also, the little piece that holds the buckle on came off already (guess I was pulling too hard), so I'm going to put velcro on the outside of the shoe and on the underside of the strap... this should hold pretty well, if I need to, I can always put a new buckle on it later too. Can't expect too much durability for this price eh?

POJ - send an email to Allen Scott (son of the great shoemaker Wayne Scott), I bet he would have some suggestions. He is "Clownshoe" here on the Forum. His website is www.clownshoesandprops.com He is so nice he will probably be willing to help you even if you let it slip that you know me. :)
Fitzwilly 01-09-2009, 03:45 PM Violet, you painted the flowers on the toes and everything? They look great! I look forward to actually meeting you a MooseCamp this summer.

Violet 01-09-2009, 04:04 PM Fitzwilly,
Yes, I painted the flowers and the polka dots. These were decent quality shoes, but I was thinking of buying a bunch of cheapo similar styled shoes to practice my "techniques" on some more! As much as I sometimes think I want really good clown shoes, I want to become a better clown first. I have two inexpensive pairs of big clown shoes, but I keep thinking I might want to do my own thing, since costuming and being unique is an important facet of clowning to me.
I look forward to meeting you also this summer (and all of the rest of you Clown Forum fun clowns!)
Nettie Belle 01-09-2009, 05:25 PM Wow. Those really look NICE. You did a great job, Violet. I'm looking forward to meeting you too! :D
Wally Woo Hoo 01-09-2009, 08:33 PM Those are great shoes. Maybe I should paint some first instead of buying a real clown pair.
Perry Noia 01-09-2009, 08:37 PM I'd have kept my painted ones if I could have
