Ryden,

The name will come. Concentrate on your character development. A name is not as important as developing a good clown character. Be patient. I know it is difficult, but You will find the right name, maybe not in the time frame you want, but it will come!

Scruffy is right on here. Nearly every aspect
of your clown's character is more important than
the name.

Study your character - how does he/she walk and talk?
What does he/she like? Dislike? Is he/she afraid of any thing?
Favorite food?
Favorite color?
How old is he/she? Remember your character can be very young, or
be very old regardless of your "true age."

Any siblings? Clown parents?

Some folks go as far as to write down their clown character's whole history or biography to help flesh out the details.

As you discover more and more about your clown character, you will
eventually come up with a name that fits.

A lot of circus clowns didn't (don't?) even have special clown names - they used their real name or a childhood nickname.

It's important that you become your character when you put on the
makeup -- the more comfortable and familiar you are with that
character, the easier it will be to become that character.

One other thing - some of those characteristics you want to explore
just have to be experimented with, and learned as you go. It's hard
to just say "My clown will be this and this and this" -- Instead, put
on the makeup and costume and experiment. See how you FEEL,
try various walks, handshakes, smiles, expressions.

And finally, it is a work in progress. It never stays the same and is
always evolving.

Glad to meet ya, Ashes gives good advice. It took several tries for me to get Saphire Sue but it suit me. I'll never repeat or remember my first few names I tried yuk... Sally Bangs was easy [it is a hated childhood nickname my mother gave me] but it is unique to me.

See -- the name will come. One of my partners couldn't think
of a clown name, but it was under his nose all along --

He is a Disc Jockey, and the guys at the fire station call him "Radio" --

Well, that is PERFECT in just how well it fits.

So, viola! Radio was borned.

Listen to these guy and gal clowns! Their is ALWAYS good advice to be had on CLOWN FORUM! Get in your costume and walk around looking into a mirror. Go through a routine or two and imagine an audience responding to you! What names might they be saying to describe you...stare into the mirror...it WILL all come together! Remember EVERY clown is unique so we are all behind you on WHATEVER name you do chose (or change periodically to)! Best of luck!
