I use a brush actually, but my makeup is pretty minimal... i think it depends a little on whether you need a sharp edge or are just looking at covering a large area?

I will assume that you are talking about clown makeup and not face paints...

I think that fingers work well for large areas. For smaller details, the fingers are too large and brushes and makeup pencils work better. Use your fingers and spread the makeup over your face and then pat it with your fingers to get it nice and smooth.

there are several threads on this and you'll find each has their own application. personally I perfer to use a make up sponge, you can get a smooth edge with it, as well as feather/blended look and I find patting it give a smooth finish. I tried fingers and for me I didn't like it. It's bascially what works for you.

Hey Kelly, I saw you were thinking about coming to the Spring Fling. If you do you can sit down with Priscilla and she will be glad to help you with your make up, both design and application. If you want to post a couple of pictures either here or in a PM I would be glad to offer what assistance I can.

I have found that the best method is to put your makeup in the palm of your hand and `work` it in with the fingers on the other hand. This warms the makeup and makes it a lot easier to apply. It makes for a very smooth texture when applied. I use a q tip to work the edges of the eyeliner. I have used this method for several years. Good luck, and thanks for the wig! Radar

this all depends on the type of makeup you use if you use mehron you definitely need to warm the makeup up in your hand as it is really thick but if you use ben nye you dont need to i use my fingers to apply the white and then a foam wedge for my auguste color and then i use pencils for my red and black i am in the process of uploading a makeup tutorial right now as im typing i will post a link when im done.

I generally use crayon-shaped face-paint - it makes drawing a lot easier!
I have tried using sponges, but they drive me crazy. Brushes are good, especially if you want a neat edge, but I always think hands and fingers are best.

But this varies for each person - it's just finding what fits you. :)
