View Full Version : Hospital Clown Cart

I read Blossom's post about making a hospital cart to hold supplies. I decided to make one myself out of an old microwave cart (I don't sew, but am pretty good with power tools). I put bigger wheels on it, did some cutting and painting ... used an old scooter handle bars to make it look steerable (it's not though). Now ALL I have to do is get creative at cramming it into my little car. If I can't get it to fit then maybe I can pull it behind the car ... if I push it with my car it will appear that I am an ambulance chaser. ;) It'd be neat to add a motor and just drive it to the hospitals, but I don't think I could justify the extra expense for the motor. I painted a clown face on the back and the words, "Warning I brake for rubber chickens". I can't wait to try it out.

That's pretty creative!! Once we get above 30 degrees (basement) I'm going to attempt something like this. VERY INSPIRING.

THanks for sharing.

Wow! That is sooooo cool Doctor Beans. I wish I was handy with power tools. Great decorating too ... I bet you'll have kids wanting to ride the ambulance.

Where is the stuff stored? Are there drawers on the other side or does it open from the top?

It has double doors on the other side (I'll post another picture of that side). I wish it had more storage room, but I put a lot of stuff in my antique doctor's bag .... so hopefully it'll be enough room. We tend to minister more to the elderly than kids. That would be funny if they want to ride it (have to worry about broken hips and such) :o When I'm in a room full of folks (like at a church function) I talk to the kids and give them stickers and such ... the kids are more than likely running around having a great time... then I go and try to find the saddest looking people and get them to laugh.

There is a man at our church that had cancer about a year ago. I really bonded with him and his wife after I went to see him in the hospital as Doctor Beans. Then I showered him with funny cards (signed by Doctor Beans) ... a few a week until he was cancer free. Once I've clowned for someone one on one I tend to get attached and like to do follow ups. I would like to go back to the children's hospital sometime, but it's really hard for me to see sick kids. I know that God will give me the strength though if that's what He calls me to do.

That is very VERY awesome. I really love it, and you really did a nice job on it. I would think kids would WANT to go to the hospital, just to see you!! Hmmmm ... is that good? I guess it is for the hospital, since they rely on census.
