View Full Version : Inexpensive props
funfacesforu 03-01-2009, 08:36 AM I just got back from the Dollar Tree and they had big clown scissors (14"), big ears (6"), plastic bow tie (7"), nose and mouth (6"), big felt hats, big light up ring (4"), clown sun glasses (11") and big coins (2+").
I plan on using the ears as listening ears. Ask the kids a question and pretend I can't hear them. Then say oh yeh I remember my teacher used to say that you had to put on your listening ears. I'll ask the kids to put on theirs and then I'll put on mine.

Sir Toony Van Dukes 03-01-2009, 10:53 AM I am always amazed at what people can find and even more amazed with how they choose to use their findings. Even though Dollar stores and the Salvation Army have inexpensive items, it is easy to start spending a small fortune there.

You know, I never quite thought about it that way. But it's true. Only out of the mouth of a clown would one hear these matched up.
Christopher Clown 03-01-2009, 11:31 AM I got a pair of the large sunglasses from the dollar tree... I popped the lenses out of them and use them as my "Reading Glasses"
BlossomTheClown 03-01-2009, 04:15 PM Dollar Tree ... I love that place!
Violet 03-01-2009, 04:36 PM Violet, the big spender, hit the Dollar Tree this afternoon and got a ginormous toothbrush, comb, pair of scissors and coins. I spent less than the cost of a fast-food lunch!
funfacesforu 03-01-2009, 05:39 PM Your lucky you got such a better selection than the store I shopped at.
BlossomTheClown 03-01-2009, 10:29 PM I went to the Dollar Tree last week and bought the scissors, comb, coins and more. I was so excited to find them there. I also bought three colored nerf balls and a megaphone and made my ice cream cone yesterday ... banana and strawberry flavored, yummy!
Did I mention I love the dollar stores :D
Christopher Clown 03-01-2009, 11:03 PM You found a giant toothbrush at the dollar tree?? Thats it ! Time for a trip!
One big brush doesn't make up for 100 little ones.
I got the toothbrush, light up ring, scissors, megaphone, and giant comb. Haven't found the coins yet though. I also got one of those big cloth flowers there that has a neat face on it and use that in a couple of different ways.
katchup 03-10-2009, 06:36 PM My most recent purchases from the Clown ( opps)Dollar Store
were 5 toilet plungers a a roll of nylon Barrier Tape. and it works great for when you need stage for a skit or a safety zone for tying balloons. The plongers have a plastic eye on the handle for running the barrier tape thur, and the handles screw out of the bases for easy storage.8-)
Christopher Clown 03-10-2009, 08:16 PM I found the coins but not the toothbrush, ears, comb, or scissors... I already have a comb. I ordered a toothbrush in my Larocks order the other day. I can't think of a way to use scissors yet but I could get those from Party City if I wanted to.
saphireSue 03-10-2009, 08:20 PM one thing about the plungers, they won't work in windy areas. learned that the hard way. I did the same thing with them for an outdoor event thinking I could make a small stage area, ended up having to tossem asside. Not weighted enough on the bottom, might see if I can add some type of weight to them.
Even with the wind, would they work if there was a way to actually "Plunge" them and make them stick. Say if you put down a square of linoleum first? (just a thought.. I may be tired and rambling!)
saphireSue 03-10-2009, 08:29 PM I dout it, we got them last min. do a stage show at an outdoor shopping center [it rained] so the grounds were wet, and on cement. But because of the rain there was little in the way of shoppers so we didn't need them anyway. Thought I'd share it since I had seen some one else post they were going to get them, thought I'd perhaps save them some trouble.
Daisy Doo 03-10-2009, 09:45 PM I have gone to dollar stores and got dog toys.
I have made whole skits out of a few toys.
Some have faces on them.
I got a blue J and it is my pet..I ask the kids if they have a pet.
I have bought a cheap iron and tell them that exercise is important and you should
pump iron.
Jodie 03-10-2009, 10:08 PM How are you going to use your flowers?
Jodie 03-10-2009, 10:12 PM Try turning then upside down and filling then with cement.
Häagen-Dazs 03-10-2009, 10:44 PM That's cute. I like it.
A. C. 03-14-2009, 03:19 PM Wow hope there is some good items left at the Dollar Tree, after you all brought all the good stuff. Thanks for the idea, I never though of it.
Oollilolli 04-04-2009, 01:28 AM I need some ideas for using my humongous comb and scissors.
Häagen-Dazs 04-04-2009, 11:01 AM That's cute. I like it.
Sir Toony Van Dukes 04-04-2009, 06:59 PM I took mine to my local St. Baldrick's event. St. Baldrick's is a charity event where people have their heads shaved to raise funds for childhood cancer research.
I guess you could use the scissors for ribbon cutting ceremonies or crafts with the kids. The comb would be harder to use outside hair-related activities...
Dusty B 04-06-2009, 03:40 PM Get out the big comb and announce you're ready to go to the beach and be a beach comber?
Hold it above a man with a bald head and him how he likes his comb-over?
I have a big pair of plastic scissors... I figure to use it in a rope magic routine... hand them the rope and ask them to make sure it's an ordinary rope, then hand the them the scissors and ask them to make sure its an ordinary pair of scissors. If they say "yes" then you can have some fun with them..."are you SURE its an ORDINARY pair of scissors? REALLY? This is the first pair IVE seen this loarge, and look, it won't cut ANYTHING..." etc. Even if they don't catch on at first it could still be good for a cheap laugh or two.
Artsy 04-06-2009, 04:02 PM I need some ideas for using my humongous comb and scissors.
1. Have a sign that says, "Free Haircuts for Bald Men"
2. Be a "dog groomer" at community charity events for animal shelters
3. You can turn the comb into a giant kazoo using waxed paper around the comb's teeth and I think, a rubber band?
4. Comb can be used by itself by adding a fake bee on wire to let it bounce around it to turn it into a HONEYCOMB
PetalsTheClown 04-06-2009, 04:27 PM honeycomb!!! i love it!!
Uptown 05-14-2009, 11:04 PM one thing about the plungers, they won't work in windy areas. learned that the hard way. Not weighted enough on the bottom, might see if I can add some type of weight to them.
What I found that worked for me, was on a windy day, I just went to the washroom, filled a couple of balloons with water and inserted then inside for weight...oh by the way, don't push too hard.:pie: If you have the space, fill the bottom with concrete or plaster, then jst unscrew the handles for transporting or storage.

StuartPid 06-05-2009, 12:54 PM All I can think of reading this is Space balls COMB THE DESERT!
Oollilolli 06-24-2009, 10:26 PM I got the toothbrush, light up ring, scissors, megaphone, and giant comb. Haven't found the coins yet though. I also got one of those big cloth flowers there that has a neat face on it and use that in a couple of different ways.
Give me some ideas!
Zippy Zoo 06-25-2009, 02:48 PM Maybe we should start a new thread "how would you use this?"
Just a thought.
