View Full Version : WOW I was offered more work this weekend...
Darsee 09-07-2005, 09:28 PM The company thought I did a good job last week and offered me
more work. YEAH. I am excited. Eventhough it is not clown work.
It is character work. I am going to be Dora The Explorer and
Cookie Monster another night and Sponge Bob another.
I bet the costumes are hot. Do any of you have experience
with them? I was told to be enthusiastic and on time and I
will be fine. What do you think? Thanks Darcee
saphireSue 09-07-2005, 09:45 PM sorry I've never worn character costumes, but I'd suggest keeping water near by. and make sure the clothing you wear underneath is light and breaths ie cotton.
saphireSue 09-07-2005, 09:45 PM OH and congrats. on the job.
Scruffy 09-07-2005, 09:46 PM congrats!
dress cool, and comfy. make sure you don't have to use the bathroom for a while. The costumes are very hot. but, it depends. I was in a penguin costume on both july 4th, and for a thanksgiving day. Turkey day was comfy, I had on some thermals, and the Wally suit. I was like a winter coat even my head was warm.
Fourth of July was blistering. Make sure you take bottled water or Gatorade.
Really hot day, I'd go with the gatorade. you will loose electrolytes real fast..
It was fun though,
ashes 09-08-2005, 08:11 AM Congratulations on the job!
Now, you're not just a clown, you're an "entertainer!!!"
I went to the sporting goods store and bought a
camelback pack -- it is basically a bladder you
fill with water / gatorade and wear it on your back
with a long tube that you can hook up close to your
mouth. Just bite lightly on the end of the tube and
suck like a straw.
I wore one under my bunker coat when we knew we
would be outside in the heat for an extended period
of time.
I filled mine with propel (lightly flavored water) and
then put ice cubes in with it. It stayed cold the
entire event.

Yep. Those character costumes are very hot. I would recommend wearing a headband or bandana on your forehead. If sweat drips in your eyes, you can't do anything about it. My husband is making me a Elmo as we speak. Oops, I mean Red Furry Monster. How long do you have to keep the suit on? If you get too hot, don't hesitate to tell someone. I've seen people get really overheated and ended up pretty ill. Good Luck and Congrats!

Darsee 09-08-2005, 09:14 PM I had NO IDEA THe Costumes would be THAT HOT!!!!!!!
I must be naive. I thought no big deal it is just for
a half hour. You guys are the best. I love your ideas.
The gatorade with the straw is a good one. Well I pick
up the Sponge Bob costume tomorrow and can practice
being in it so that may help............
THANKS AGAIN.
Scruffy 09-09-2005, 05:08 AM A half an hour isn't too bad. After you pick it up, try it on and walk around the house for a bit. It will help to give you an idea of how well you will hold up. Also, some of them can be a bit difficult to navigate in so it will give you a little time to find your "sea legs".
You do just fine, Darsee. Just wear as little as is needed while inside, Like a swimsuit. Do I s there is room inside You might try a wet T shirt (As long as Sponge Bob doesn't get wet) to help cool you.
Good luck.

fumbles1 09-09-2005, 07:03 AM At least it's not july, you should be just fine hope for a cool day! :D Good luck
ashes 09-09-2005, 07:21 AM You might also wear "under armor" sports underwear and a pair of
shorts under it -- Under Armor is made to wick moisture away from you, thereby helping you stay cool.
Thankfully, I can tell the hot season has passed here. Yesterday morning
when I went to the car to go to work it was decidedly cooler than it has been!
Keep hydrated and you'll do fine. Water is life.

Darsee 09-09-2005, 11:35 AM Sponge BOB is a huge costume. I had no
idea, and I barely was able to carry it to the car.
I will try it on in a little while and see how it feels.
Two of the nights I will be at a Pizza Restaurant so hopefully
their air conditioning is working. When I do Sponge Bob
I will be in someones home for a birthday party. I also picked
up the cd's that go along with the costume. So I need to
practice dancing around.
Thanks so much for your encouragement and great IDEAS.
I will wear the bandana, thank you. I also will call some sport
stores to see about under armor. Never heard of that before.
Misting my shorts and top before I go "on" is really smart.
I never thought there was so MUCH to this. I need to prove
myself to the company. This reminds me of a college
inititiation. lol
