Looking for some tips and advice in developing my clown face. My costume is a purple jumpsuit that I have added purple sequins to. I also have a matching purple sequined vest. I have a purple wig that is a beehive style. There is some teal green in the outfit as well...and my balloon bag is purple and teal. I go by Crystal/Amethyst.
I was thinking of a purple triangle above each eye and a matching one inverted below. white around the mouth with a purple outline. The wig has bangs that cover my forhead and comes in front of my ears on the sides, so I dont' have much face to work with.
I would appreciate any thoughts or pics you could direct me too for some ideas.
Thank you,
maidtrix

I just recently found my clown face, and unfortunately I could'nt find many pictures or ideas. went to several bookstores and the library and didnt come up with much.
So basically I just experimented untill bam it hit me, and I knew I had my face. It took around 20 times before I found it! So that is my two cents to you. Just experiment! And have fun doing it!

Welcome, maidtrx!
Experimentation really is the key - but there are some guidelines
that may help you.
Remember that the makeup is not a "mask" but should emphasize
your natural expressions so that when you change expressions they
are easily seen at the back of the room...
My face has been evolving over 30 years, and will still evolve.
My wife took an oval and drew face designs on it (saving time and
makeup and makeup removal!)
Or, you might take an actual photograph of your face and put a
layer of clear plastic on it and draw designs on that overlay.
Try taking a look at "Strutter's Complete Guide To Clown Makeup"
or Bubba Sikes has a great video "You Look Marvelous, Darling"
Since your wig and costume is almost all purple, I would be concerned
about too much purple in your makeup - maybe your teal accents could
be brought out in your makeup - if you can find that color.
Good luck, and post pictures if you can!

I can see how I will spend lots of time evloving too. I worked a car show today and tried the purple triangle under the eye with white around my mouth outlined with a thin purple line. I did get several compliments :) I think I will try to work from that.
Here's some pics of me today. Didn't get one staight on, but I think you can see a bit of what I did.
Thanks for the information.

I know there was a web site that posted the pictures of clown that won in competetion, but I couldn't find it. You should never copy any one but looking at others can some time give you ideas for how you want yours to look. If any one can remember the site perhaps ya'll post it here. If you have a digital camera, or camcorder, take as many close up pictures then look and see what you like best, and what doesn't seem to work.
