Hi folks,
I'm looking for any advice people can give me on how to setup an old fashioned pie-in-the-face game for some county and town fairs we've been hired by. I'm familiar with the foam soap pies for skits but does this work at fairs? I've been told custard, pudding or even mashed potatoes with food coloring is better... What about saftey, cleanup, apparrel, rules of the game? Any suggestions would be really welcome...any resources online that people know about would be great too, or any information or annecdotes you could provide from observation or experience. I know this is silly but I've been assigned with making this work by my boss (I'm also the poor soul who is probably going to have to be the pie-taker at least half the time!). Thanks in advance!

I would recommend at least covering your costume with a plastic poncho or rainslicker. People who do that tend to get incredibly messy in a short period of time and whatever they make the "pies" out of, it can't be good for your costumes.

soap foam is best but no doubt you will end up with some in your mouth. I'd reccomend reddi whip (whipped cream in a can). It's at least palitable. Use a board with a hole in it big enough to get your head through. It will minimize damage to your costume. If you use a wig, get one of those cheap ones from a halloween shop. Don't spoil a good yak wig on a pie toss.

I've been in one where they've done the redi-whip but it tends to fall or melt quite quickly. One suggestion is vanilla pudding in 2 gallon cans from Price Club or Costco...another is instant pudding mix with water all mixed up and then just a dollop of whipcrem on a recycled paper plate.

I've been the 'pie face' at a number of events over the years and it can be great fun...just make sure there is a rest room for cleanup (or at leas a garden hose) nearby.
