Get whatever suits your personal interests and needs. I think that any set which is of quality and proper construction is worthy. Beyond that, it is really just a matter of what the best fit is. Probably the majority of serious jugglers employ Dube. But others use different makes just as well.

Other quality choices to consider are Todd Smith and Beard:

Todd Smith Juggling Equipment - We manufacture juggling equipment and supplies! (http://www.toddsmith.com/clubs.shtml)

Beard Juggling Clubs Radical Fish Circus Euro (http://www.beard.co.uk/products.php?top_section=8)

Eclipse, PX3, Renegade clubs are an option as well.

As said above, basically any set of clubs that run in the $100 range is go to be a nice club. If you plan on doing passing, I'd recommend the 3 listed above since they are among the most popular club makes and models - it's much easier to pass when everyone has a similar weight/balance make of club.

pedals you can get the same set i have for 20 bucks at jugglebug.com i think i will keep mine sentimental reasons they are good beginner clubs as i have found they flip slower then the really good ones mentioned above ok trueth be told i am too lazy to put them into a box and ship them to you to sell them to you

the eclipse are only 15 bucks a piece making the set only 45 bucks i know easy math so would you still suggest them since they don't come to a $100 not trying to be a jerk but you suggested the eclipse then made a comment about price i get confussed or rather over analyze things

Sorry, I meant in addition to the ones listed.

Eclipse are indeed only $15 and are a bargain imo. They'll certainly do well for your juggling needs. If you're juggling for numbers, 7, 9, + clubs, then you'll probably want something a little more aggressive. If you're looking for a nice set of clubs that look the part, then the Eclipse will do you well. I own a set of the illuminated Eclipse clubs and they're balanced pretty well. For my every day juggling, I use a set of PX3 (because the people I pass with use them as well).

Edit below:

Just a thought.

Circus Camp brings a lot of students, and by default, a lot of props so I get to play with several different makes and models.
There is no denying that certain props, clubs or otherwise, are superior to others. More often than not, a $50 clubs is better than a $30 club which is better than a $15 club. There are also some props that aren't props at all, but really toys - $7 diabolos, $15 juggling sets (balls, rings, clubs) that are pretty much useless and should be avoided.

However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with buying the most affordable quality prop. In juggling for example, take the 2 big juggling groups (IJA, WJF).

The IJA is where most of us are going to fit, whether we are actually members of it or not. Most of the card carrying members are more artistic jugglers - clowns, comedians, etc. We might make it to 5 or 6 props, but we're not likely to make any record books by juggling skill alone. Since this is true, we can buy the Eclipse club for $15 as opposed to the $40 dube' club and probably never really know the difference it truly makes.

The WJF is where the hard core numbers type of guy usually ends up and he sees juggling different than you or I do. Where you or I may juggle a few clubs, balls, rings, etc to get the attention of a crowd so that we can perform our other routines, this class of juggler is simply amazing with his props. You're going to see a dozen balls being juggled, or 9 clubs. It might not have much artistic flair but it will still be jaw dropping by simple technique. A skilled worker needs the best tools, so he's more likely to buy the $50 club because he'll most likely feel the difference.

Cigar boxes are a blast. They're a lot of work and somewhat of an actual workout when using them. Expect some soreness in your legs and backside when first starting out, but definitely stick with them if you decide to give them a try. Much of the public will never see box jugglers, so it's a treat when they do get to see a performance.

ok i want a mattallic color on my clubs but higgins brothers px3 vegas style is out of yellow. i want red blue and yellow and dube european or phatboys doesn't even have yellow as an option.
starting to wonder if i should go with one color for all three clubs my question is if i have 3 different colors i think the audience will be able to follow at least one club and see what it is doing while having all the same would make it harder to follow any club or is this what i want does anyone feel this will be more awe inspiring to the audience?

How long before the Higgins are back in stock? I agree that it is much easier for the audience to follow what is happening when the clubs are identifible. If yellow is out what about some of the other color options? With the other companies, is yellow out of the question? What I am asking is if you called and asked them would they make a yellow special for you?

Dube carries yellow decoration tape in vinyl, metallic you could opt for gold. If you just get the redecoration kit stuff, it ought to cover another company's club, assuming you order the right size. Or you could just go to an arts and crafts store and get the appropriate type of trim to cut down and tape on. Dube's Airflite clubs come in colors.

I do like how when performers use three different colors it tends to make it a little easier for an audience to follow with you.

I suppose my choice is more because I was viewing it from the standpoint of a serious juggler rather than a clown. I wanted something which made for a slick looking set which together presented a cohesive impression. I would, perhaps like to have another set in blue foil as that would make for a nice contrast when passing. All that said, the reality is that the clubs are white. Everything on top is just decoration. I have an additional set of foil and tape. I could just as easily peel off what is there and change the tape to blue, the caps to white, the body accents to whatever color I like. For a clown or a family entertainer who is just doing some basic tricks and patter interaction, I think that having three different colors presents a nice effect. But if you want to have the clubs stand out for some sharp juggling and appear a bit less bohemian, then I'd opt for a matching set. As always, it's ultimately a matter of "whatever works for you" in your own performance oeuvre.

Usually, the comment I get is "nice clubs", which is the impression I'm hoping to make.

So at the festival I got to experience a wide range of what people are using with their clubs. PX3s were just too different for me compared to the Dube's which I have always used. Entirely different feel. Very light.

I did get to try out some Henrys which I sort of liked. They were comparable to what I use, but a bit lighter and faster spinning. Took a little getting used to. But might be worth a try for tricks and numbers juggling. Anyone else have experience or an opinion on them?

after all my looking and finally getting the renegades and i like them fine but after the Midwest when i met jewls she said she likes the todd smith thumpers for passing also if you are the kind to be able to juggle for long periods these are nice too they have a softer handle so they are easier on your hands and they shouldn't be too different from your dube's

tim
01-24-2010, 04:25 PM
Hmmm... the thumpers are actually a bit heavier than mine. The Euros are comparable. My challenge at the moment is being able to do consistent doubles in work towards juggling four clubs (two in each hand.) So my thought has been that lighter might make that more manageable.

My experience with the Henrys is that they like to hit me in the face a lot. More so than my cheapo homemade clubs. They're also heavier, so when they hit me it hurts more. People are going to think I'm being battered at home.

Oh yeah, and I really did get a great deal on them - (thanks tim)!

When I started Juggling the only clubs I could find were the Dube clubs, which I bought and used for almost 5 years. I still have them though they rarely get played with. About seven years ago I received 6 renegade clubs and after that I didn't look at my Dube clubs again.

I find that the renegade clubs are easier to juggle, easier to pass and are, as someone already said, more common at festivals. There is nothing wrong with Dube clubs, I have just found that renegade makes a slightly better product and I find them more fun to juggle with.

That being said. If you are just starting out with clubs go buy three plungers (approx:$3 each) and learn with those. They are potentially more clown friendly and they will help you get the general idea of club juggling without the $50-100 investment.
