Well I was a nervous wreck today. So much to think about. The
balloons the face paint, the pinyata, the cd the cd player,
the gift for the child.
Over all it went fine. I stayed 10 min. later because my face
painting is slow. I love my new paints. I got the Paradise (sillyfarm)
and love them. I tried really hard to make it nice and I think
the Mom knew that. My intentions were very good although I was
slow at most things. I made a balloon birthday hat for the birthday
girl but then everyone wanted one. I pre made puppy dogs at
home and gave them to the girls at the end of the party.
On the way home I kept thinking of how it could have been
better.
Also, lately I feel a real calling to do clown volunteer work. How
do I get started. Thanks for all your support. Love Dar

Way to go, Darsee!! (round of applause)

Contact your local Red Cross chapter to see if they have a clown troupe, and if they would give you the number for the chapter president. That person will be able to give you more information.

Scruffy and I are just getting started in clown volunteering and it was because Scruffy met the president of our chapter through another event, where Scruffy was just doing it for the fun of it.

We are really enjoying it! I'm getting more into it than I ever thought I would.

I'm doing face painting, too! I like it. I could use to speed up a bit, but that comes with practice, I hear. Keep your designs simple. I'm basically doing cheek art. Doing a whole face takes way too much time, especially when you have a long cue of kids.

great job, Darsee.
Sit down and make a list of things you felt could be improved, and funny things that happened that you didn't expect, tricks that may not have went off as smoothly as you would have liked them too, And figure out what worked and what didn't.
BTW, If you only want to make one hat, then make it a "Crown" for the Birthday child.

Glad it went well I hope you had fun
There are a lot of places that you could donate your time such as nursing homes and a few charities like Make A Wish I a couple of Relay For Life each yr and a few other places the main thing is make sure its a cause YOU belive in

glad things went well, I'd pick one thing at a time. If you volunteer for a lot of events, it will get known you'll work for free. Pick the ones that mean the most to you. I do the ALS walk, and Hopice care camp every year events. and the nursing home once a month, I did hospitals but I also work for the hospital and they have a standard policy of no employee's volunteering, because some nurse did some work for a blood drive once adn then went back in a made claims requarding payment, no now the policy, but any way, in hopital, hospice, and nursing home there are some very strick rules as far as HIPPA [healthcare -privacy etc], they would love to have you but most places require some type of volunteer orientation, inservicing, back ground check etc. before they will allow this, so be prepared, that's why I suggest go slow start with one group then if you can add more do so.

Congratulations!

And I'm a clown who does all volunteer work for my city Fire Department.
I don't do birthday parties or other private events.

Sapphire Sue is right that you need to make sure and keep it balanced
so that you can keep on working paid gigs while at the same time doing
some volunteer work. Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Special Needs Centers
and other places like that usually have a volunteer services coordinator
that you can contact and find out if they would like a clown (or if they
already have one or more.)

Good luck to you!

Great idea to concentrate in one direction for volunteering.
That will keep me centered on my goal also. My goal is to
give back and make people smile.

Also, I will be at the zoo for 3 hours next week. Any fun
zoo ideas. Oh.....I will be doing walk around and face painting.

Thanks Dar :P

If you have a bunch of kids at the zoo, you
can do an "Elephant Walk" --

Each child extends one arm forward as a "trunk" and
puts the other arm back between their legs sticking
out as the "tail."

In a line, each child grasps the "tail" (hand) of the elephant
in front of them with their "trunk".

If you make two lines, you can turn it into a race, otherwise,
just lead them around the area.

You could carry around a pair of pantyhose.

Tell them they are for your animals;
10 piggies
2 calves
innumerable hares (alot)
and a *donkey

*depending on the ages
