I have always used snazaroo but I wonder if any anyone can tell me what quality the wolfe brothers face paint is like?

I have only used Snazaroo paints. My local Party City store sells the primary colors for $6.99/18 ml containers. Considering I can often use a $10 off on $30 purchase, they have the best value for my bucks. The Michael's Craft stores started selling the small palettes with 8-2ml colors for $12.99. If you use a 40% or 50% coupon, that is also a good value.

I have heard several people say that Wolfe Black and White will cover any color.

I've also heard that several people use just the wolfe black and white, but also that the black can be harder to wash off, so be careful using a lot of it on a child's face or their mom might not be too happy with you.

a lot of the local clowns here use paradise, but I can't stand the smell of it (ick coconuts)... they like the texture.

Wolfe Brother's paint is fantastic. I have switched almost completely to it. (It helps that it stacks nicely and fits in my case really well which my large pallets of Paradise, nice as they are, don't.) Price per container is more expensive, and the technique for using the paint is very different, because the paint is very different. Th paints are highly pigmented so they cover darker skins very well as they do lighter.

I like the paradise. Wolfe stains and the company has done a few unfair things in the past.
I am always asked if the face paint will wash off. I like being able to say yes. I get really good results with the paradise. And the small pallets fit nicely in my box.

I agree with Coco about Wolfe staining, particularly the black. I got so tired of staining my son with Wolfe, that I bought some other colors from Paradise and Snaz.

Wolfe's black and white are great though if you want really crisp, clear linework. Also, it doesn't stain as badly if you put down a base of some other non-Wolfe color.

I too, like Fitzwilly, have switched almost entirely to Wolfe Bros. I love everything about it--the rich colors, the smooth crisp lines I can get from it. I am still partial to Kryolan in a few colors that do specific coverage for me.
As far as the cost, I find that yes, wOLFE AND kRY are more costly, but I don't need to replenish my inventory as quickly as I see what other facepainters go thru by using other brands. Just my unscientific observation.

One of the female clowns that is starting to teach me to face paint has told me that the wolfe bros white is perfet for puting other colors under bcause it wont blend.. In other words if you run red over white you wont get pink...but the rest of her paints are paradise....the thought of staining is pretty scary, so i play it safe rather then sorry...the rich pigmentations of wolfe is great though..no aurguments there.

Artsy;...what about blush...what brand and shades do you use and why???
ALSO DO YOU USE THOSE ARTY CAKES.??

My opinion (obviously):

Best bang for the buck is Paradise, and that's what we use for about 90% of what we do.

Wolfe is nice stuff. I love their white because it's actually white. I prefer their black to the paradise black, and that's what I use. My daughter seems to prefer the paradaise black over the wolfe brothers -- though she uses both.

I haven't seen any real problems with wolfe staining, even on bare skin. It certainly stains less than paradise green's and red.

I use only one blush as a universal does-it-all-for-everyone's-complexion. It's # R21 from Kryolan. Blush is used for princess faces. I add a Lindsey star starburst in white over it.

Arty cakes? Are you referring to those multicolored cakes? If so, I use only two-- one that is red white and blue and the other one is a r a i n b o w . I prefer applying individual colors with a sponge with other color combinations.

And while Wolfe Bros. white is truly white and amazing, it will still smear with red to make pink if you're not careful. There is no getting around the pink laundry hazards even in facepainting!

Thanks artsy for the reply.. Yes i was refering to those multi colors cakes...they are a little pricey but they sure look like the make things fast....ill have to try loading up a sponge and compare the two

I have recently found interesting products at Hot Topics at the mall. They are bright, neon eye shadows. A dry powder that can be applied with a Q-tip, dry brush or cotton ball. The pink makes the simple cat face light up. The colors of choice for the princess face to have eye shadow. And I use it for background on some of my other eye designs.

I've dabled with wolf bro. but haven't formed an opinion myself, but I wanted to add about the multi colored cakes as you replace you stock, when you stll have a little left around the edge and use a small container and make you own cakes, Paradise works well for this, then use a sponge or flat brush. I buy the rainbow day glow, but the others I have I've made as I go along. Just a suggestion. I hate when the cake gets real low and only around the edge, this way I go ahead and switch to a new one and still get to use all that was left in the old one.

What about Diamond FX? Thoughts?

I bought a rainbow cake that someone had handmade from Snazaroo sparkle paints and Ive found it great.

This weekend I did rainbow butterflies in a fraction of the time it would take me to apply all the individual colors, and they look really impressive. I did a rainbow cat on my daughter with just 2 quick swipes round the face with the rainbow cake and then adding details!

What about Diamond FX? Thoughts?

I recently bought DFX in white and metallic green, and I love both of them. Great coverage, and the metallic is just plain awesome!

Excellent! I've just ordered some DFX in black and white, and can't wait to play with those! I figure I'll dabble with those two before ordering any metallics etc...I want the mail to come!

i had heard that DFX and Wolf FX are pretty much the same, but I don't know from experience or anything.

From what I have read and heard from the insiders Diamond FX and Wolfe Brothers are made in the same factory to nearly identical formulations. In some instances DFX seem to be a touch cheaper than Wolfe. I have heard that originally Diamond came on the market when there was a squabble in the Wolfe camp with a (not so) silent partner and a large distributor.

I have heard this as well as a rumor -- no clue if it is true.

Ive heard the same thing. I think they have a slightly different formula which means that the black is less difficult to get off than the Wolfe one.

Aparently the Wolfe one doesnt stain - its just greasy so its more difficult to shift (if you can see the subtle difference there!) but with baby shampoo or glycerine soap it comes off quite easily!

I have never had an issue with the wolfe black. The worst staining colors I have run into are the paradise teal, greens, and red. I imagine all manufacturers have similar issues with some colors.

I will certainly agree about the paradise teal and the green. Red? I haven't had a problem with. But the Snaz green is also very staining.

You guys have made me want to try the wolfe black.

I prefer it. My daughter likes the paradise better.

Add the lavendar and leaf green Aquacolor to staining. It stains into a lovely pinkish purple and chartreuse for a day or two after it's been scrubbed.

Wolfe is nice stuff but very expensive.

Unless you have some specific reason for using it I suggest avoiding it. For your everyday makeup I suggest Paradise. A solid pallette would include:

Black, white, dark pink, dark blue, light and dark green, wild orchid, teal, brown (which you will rarely use but probably aught to have just in case), orange, yellow, and red
