View Full Version : Become a Hospice clown, share a smile Anonymous 03-30-2004, 07:48 PM We need more Hospice clowns. Share your talent, share your love. Join us! saphireSue 08-20-2004, 04:37 PM I was looking through the list and found this request for Hospice. I would like to encourage any one who has time to donate even if is one hour a month. Dealing with people who are dying can be scary but these, are the people that need a good laugh. cianuro 08-20-2004, 10:20 PM Its good, worthwhile, makes people that need it smile and helps you further yourself. Simple as that. WIN-WIN Jubilee 08-30-2004, 12:13 PM Where do they need hospice clowns? I am interested in doing that. Jubilee saphireSue 08-30-2004, 10:20 PM Look in your local phone book and call the hospice in your area. It is handled differently in each state, some by county and some do districts. Tell them you'd like to volunteer and what you do. You'll probably have to attend orientation and volunteer training, for your protection[blood, safety etc}, here it is a two day course. People in hospice have to be terminal and expected to die with in 6 months. They sign over there care to hospice and do not go back to the hospital to die. They have good days and bad and often not only can they use a laugh, the family providing continuous care need a laugh. Yes is a time for end of life planning, but it doesn't mean they can't have a good time too. Issywizzy 05-19-2005, 06:27 AM Thats a dead good idea! RedClownFred 05-19-2005, 06:06 PM Hospice clowning is certainly admirable. Does anyone on Clown Forum have experience in this area? And if you do, can you recommend particular skits or routines? I would always like to know how to handle situations that may arise, not wanting to create more problems than good! saphireSue 05-19-2005, 07:01 PM I do hospital clowning and the yearly Hospice Care Camp or grieving children. Even though some one is sick or grieving, they still can use a laugh. The care came of part of a Memorial service and we generally do simple magic and joking to help break the ice, my puppets do a skit with two kids one talking about her feeling which leads to them making a memorial box. then the kids do this. ex. " I miss Josh. remember when he helped us make that cool tree house" " yeah then he kicked us out because it made a better guys hang out I was so mad at him...oh I should have said that' led in to telling about its normal to have angry feeling, this is just a sample to give you an idea. Ha'way man, stop deleting my posts will ya!!! I just want Red Fred to know I found his site funny. Surely that's OK isn't it? RedClownFred 05-20-2005, 03:37 PM Thanks for the tips Saphire Sue! I'm sure you are well versed in this area. Thank you Boinkers Bob Fleming...I think?! I'm not sure to whom you are referring about your posts being deleted, but if they are, why do you think? I am all for free speech (as my site will attest), and I know Scruffy, S. Sue and company are very willing to let all clown voices be heard! It usually takes something downright mean or nasty to get deleted! Am I right Clown Forum crew? saphireSue 05-20-2005, 10:00 PM I don't have the power to delete any one's post, Recently we've had some that were not approp. for a site that is family oriented, It was getting out of control, but it seems to have calm down now thanks to Scruffy. I you've read the post you know what I talking about, it was probably an accident. You can PM me if you want to ask any thing specificly. |
