I wish my recent practice faces were as good as Smacky's but they are not.

Hah! I actually like the dog better that white feathering is very nice! Plus doing it on yourself I would think would be quite difficult? You guys are very inspiring. Thanks for the great posts.

People keep saying that doing it in the mirror would be more difficult. It can't be much harder than putting on clown makeup. And when compared with that one kid who just wouldn't sit still for more than 3 seconds, I make a very good subject. OK, some kids are pros and will sit quietly with their eyes closed... The strange part is when I look at the pictures and think I had put the tongue on the other side.
Shrinking the designs down to the size of a kids face is sometimes a challenge.
When I practice a design, I usually find a picture on the Internet that I like. I will sketch it out on paper and try to note the details and how they are positioned on the face. I will then use that sketch as a guide. I take a few pictures and then compare my pictures with the original design. I find it a good way to practice and get the details right. But, I still wish I had a few kid faces handy to practice on.

On your third face, my first impression would be to do just the one half of the face, with a thin black line right down the middle. Voila, Two-Face from Batman.
I think you did a great job Tooney.

I don't really find painting myself in a mirror that hard except that I don't have a big mirror and have to hold my hand mirror in front of me while I do it.
I think you've got some really nice, detailed designs. My question for you is, how fast can you paint them? The feathering on the puppy is lovely, but you can get ALMOST the same effect doing some sponge blending between the white and brown in a fraction of the time... not that I think we should rush our designs, but most kids won't sit still for 15 minutes while you get the feathering or scales "just right." If you can practice them up to 5 minutes or so per design, you'll probably do just fine... then as you work a busy face painting gig or two, you'll speed up even more as time goes on. You can keep the same overall designs, but for the purposes of most gigs, you don't need so many little details, remember the pictures they put in the Snaz contest pages were done for a contest, so they worked extra long on them. I don't want you to paint worse, just want to help you be prepared for the gigs before you get there and hope to create the perfect masterpiece on every child that visits you. :D
