Hey there forum.

At the end of October i will be attending a anime (japanese animation) convention. I honestly dont know much about anime at all... however I am going becuase i will be able to stay in a 5 star Hyatt Regency hotel for 3 nights for $20 a night.

Anywho i was just going to go and have a good time... but then my friend (who is a vendor at this even) asked me to open a facepainting booth at her table. Iam the only face painter there... 5,000-7,000 people.

I could eaisly charge $3-$10 per design... however the last night of this event there will be a rave. So i puchased two tubes of mehrons glow fx paint and a UV dayglow rainbow cake from sillyfarm.

My question is... how many designs should i offer? I want to have some simple eye masks. but this will be happening halloween weekend as well, iam not sure whar designs to incorporate. Ive never been to a convention like ths before. So iam not really sure what kind of crowd to expect. Also does anyone have a good eyemask gallery i could reference?

XOXO

I'm not a face painter, so I can't answer your question, but the glow paint sounds like a really good idea.
Have a great time, it sounds like you're going to have a blast!!
Tell us all about it afterwards.

You may want to stock up on more glow paint. Once people see it on faces everyone will want it. That's a lot of people. Try your best to stay organized and sane!

add a skull, tiger, jack o lantern and some flame designs and you should do ok. Put up some sample pictures and only let them choose from those unless you are comfortable with their request.

If you are going to be the only face painter you might think about the higher end of your pricing.

Charge more, and for anime I would do some dragons or Pokčmon or something. . .I am bot keen on anime. . .so Dragons seem anime-ish

Hey Alex! Nice to see you here... these people are GREAT!

Anywho...

I do agree that some basic halloween designs would be awesome. however i think iam only going to offer it on halloween. Since these people are staying there for 4 days.

as far as the rave goes... its only once... so iam thinking i should open my booth early in the morning because everyone and their brother will be looking for my table. i bought a uv rainbow cake (for my rainbow tigers and butterflies)... i figured i could do some wicked awesome eye masks with it too. Anyone know of a white thats uv active?

I dont have any individual dayglow colors since they where like $14 a piece... i cant afford all of this at once. So i opted to purchace the mehron glow in dark (figuring most GID stuff glows under blacklight).

For all those guys who dont want a rainbow across there face LOL.

Anyonw have any eye mask ideas? even a few halloween ones will do.

I just got a Kryolan DayGlo/UV pallet of 6 colours.... I don't use rainbow/split cakes at the moment (still perfecting my use of single colours for now). I believe there is a wolf UV paint that looks white but goes on looking clear... you put it over other colours to make them black light glowing?

I think you should invest in the glow paints because as you said you'll be painting a good deal of people. . .

Omg, Anime? I am ALL OVER THAT! Definately look upsome pokemon pics. If they seem a little difficult (some of the newer ones are quite complicated to even look at!) try just paining some Pokéballs. you could also look into DragonballZ paintings, u could pain on dragon balls, those would be really easy. You can find pictures of all these easily enough if u just google them.

You could also try to research different anime book series' and see what different characters u could paint fromt here OR if you're not so great at characters you could lernt he names of the characters nd put them on people's faces in fancy writing. I don't know how well your writing is, but if u embellish it a bit with glitter and swirls, I doubt anyone would really notice if your writing with a brush is a bit sloppy.

I'll see what else I can come up with Idea wise on this by consulting some of my friends, but that seems like a really awesome gig! I am so jealous!!!

Hi there,

I did the ACEN (anime convention) in Rosemont in May. It was pretty good but I was not as busy as I was thinking I will be. The thing you have to keep in mind is that in an Anime Convention most of the attendees will cosplaying so they are not going to get face painted. But it will still be a few to paint. There is a link to my pictures gallery about ACEN : Acen 2009 Rosemont, Il (http://www.fancifulfaces.com/galleries/view/11)

I hope it will help a little bit.

Oh ... yes Cats, tigers etc can be popular as it will be a lot of nekos (peoples who plays cats) at your convention.

I don't know right now, I was there as a merchant and the booth price is just not affordable. Even if I was selling hair pieces too I didn't made enough of business. So I will see, if I want to go back I have to find something elsse to sell... But sure I will go as a visitor, I will tell you.

Beside that, for the others, if you have an occasion to do an anime convention, forget about pokemon, its not convention for 6 years old... An anime convention is for Anime fans, then you will see a lot of things about Akira, Deatnote and lots of others Anime for a teenage/youg adult/adult public.

there is a link to the Acen Facebook group that can give you an idea : Login | Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/groups.php?ref=sb#/photo_search.php?oid=2204750184&view=all)
