I dropped my 3rd grade daughter off at a birthday party this past Saturday. The party was at a build-your-own-stuffed-animal shop. When I arrived the kids were just milling about, so I did a short sponge ball routine that was a hit with the kids, and then I left. After the party, I pulled out my hot rod. The reaction to the trick was dramatic! Two little girls who were standing right in front of me did a quick and unconscious half-step back when I turned it over and showed the gems were all the same color, and it was apparently the color the child chose. The kids were blown away! I was stunned by their reaction! It was great!
Now, I am wanting to learn a lot more tricks. I want to do birthday parties now.

birthday parties are great they are a real natural high but be warned buying magic is a black hole from which there is no return there is always something that you will want. and the stuff aint cheep those tricks you did are great for say doing a balloon line when there is if there is a slow period. but a hot rod isn't going to make it for stage/parlor of a show for 8 to 20 kids. the trick that gets me my biggest reaction is the pizza box. i think pickles was the first one to bring it up in the magic area. i love it. another that i love has three names whats next/hoppin spots and the dubious dominoe. ussually the domino is black, and i was told by fred baisch not to get the black one with the white dots. pm me for an explanation why. i don't want to give away the trick to joe schmo. another thing is to learn some rope tricks. rope is cheap and you can get alot of miles out of it pm me and i will give you a list of what i got and what i think of them if you want. i am sure there are alot of others that can give better advice then me but hey i am at least giving it a shot

I agree with the above statement... as a magician first and THEN a clown, magic will cause some very big holes in your wallet

I would recommend you starting off with the book "Mark Wilson's Complete Magic Course". It shows how you can save a lot of money by putting the tricks together yourself. A lot of tricks using impromptu items are explained too.

Congratulations and welcome to the "Elation through Trick Demonstration" Club, Not bad huh, I just made that up. I just packed my Hot Rod for Moose Camp. I never leave home with out some sort of Magic Trick. or a deck of cards. Lately I've been toting a bunch of coins.
I'll start off with a Scoth and Soda Coin trick then go into a Coin matrix using Quarters. If you are not familiar with the routines look them up on Youtube.
I've been doing this for years and it never gets tired. Sometimes it's like being a Gunslinger from the old west. I'll get challenged to do impromptu magic.
It's just great !@#$%^&*()_
