Hey, I was asked the other day about copyright infringement when it comes to my clown name.

Have any of you dealt with this issue? I don't want to get sued by the cartoon people!

Rainbow Brite (hopefully) ;-)

Hi Rainbow Brite: I don't have first hand experience with copyright issues, but I do know that huge corporations tend to guard their copyrighted material with great tenacity. I use the adage"When in doubt, leave it out!". You may be able to get around the issue by changing the spelling of your name. As long as you don't elude to being connected with the copyrighted name, that may be enough to fend off the sharks...Willy Nilly

Thanks, Willy. I think I've decided that until I hear differently, I'll just make it Rainbow Bryte and hope that keeps things cool, legally.

Dear Rainbow Bryte

If I where you I would find another name now. I am pretty sure that the Big Corpuration will not appreciate you using their name. It be much easier to change your name early on in your clowning adventure. Less confuseon to change it now rather than later after you get some exposure.

Best Regards,

Butterbean

Well, I decided to change the name. It does make sense to have something that's my own and not have the possibility of having to be forced to change it later.
So, my new clown name is now Jubilee! I like it even better than Rainbow Brite, so thanks for your input.
