One place you can still do balloons. Looks like fun, if the adults are of sound mind. Still you need to be careful, make one for some one with alzhimers, dementia and they may try to eat it, I've seen them eat strange things before. Personally it's one of those things I think you need to discuss with the activity director and if you go regularly you learn the residents and learn which ones you can do certain things with and one you need to steer clear of. They're adults but many do have mental problems and to me it's can be as dangerous as giving one to a small child if you unaware of who you're giving one to.

I mentioned this as I've worked in nursing homes, I have found pts, with putty in there mouths when some one left it sitting on a table, eat paper, eat snuff [not dip, yes eat it], some one else's teeth. If it pops they could choke on it or assume it looks like gum, there taste buds aren't as sensitive as they used to be. When I worked I knew which ones it was best not to give things like balloons to, but going into one in which I did not know the residents could be risky, You can not always tell by talking with some one. I was talking with an elderly gent. the other day, seemed as clear as a bell, then he told me he was incompetent, believe it or not he was aware of his dementia and knew there were times he didn't make sense, just goes to show you can never know on just one converstion.

Great video, love the hats, just finished a balloon class at a local high school put on by our clown alley, learned some neat stuff but I wis they would have had more hats. Are there any good books out on hats?

I'm not sure about books specifically about hats but I'll bet they are out there. There are a few good videos. Gilbert Adams has a fantastic hat video out there. It runs aboout $40 so it may seem pricey but it runs almost 3 and 1/2 hours on two DVDs. Some balloon DVDs run $25 or $30 but only last 60 or 65 minutes. Patricia Bunnell has 2 or 3 DVDs on balloons hats that are really good. Basically she makes a very basic base hat and then makes the head of an animal on the front of the hat. They aren't that difficult with a little practice but they look fantastic.

There is a shop close to me in Charlotte, NC (I live about 30 minutes south in Rock Hill, SC) that has some pretty good books on balloons as well as supplies for clowning & magic. I haven't gotten any of the dvd's, but have ordered 7 books from them all under $10. Prices are very reasonable too. It's where I order all my balloon & clown supplies - LaRocks Fun and Magic Outlet
