You are right, we are not babysitters. But that is what happens no matter how you try to educate them. But we can't allow them to injure su or our props.
I don't know if it is that Mom look in my eye or the old teacher thing but a little reminder is all it normally takes with most kids. Quietly and on a one to one basics. Then the lack of attention from you to follow it up. After all...attention is what they want.

Thanks for all the great input! Twinkles & I will sure be more prepared for the next event we do with balloons! Ya know, I really shouldn't have a problem with kids because I'm used to working with them. But for some reason it's different when it's Harmony dealing with the kids & not Jennifer.

I've ran into the same problem several times and usually just telling them that they've already had balloons and some others haven't so I need to make balloons for the others first, they usually back off and will go to the back of the line. I also will calmly tell them that because they keep popping them it's obvious they don't like the balloons I made and I've ran out of ideas. Then they usually take the last one (which I tell them is the very last one) and they go on their way.

When booking an event I let the customer know Pedals is not there to babysit. She is there to entertain and not be the disciplinarian either. {I do not state implicitly that unless you want me as a babysitter/clown I will definitely charge more or decline the event}...but I do make it know that Pedals is not there to make sure the event goes correctly (only that her show does!)

Default Balloons a day? Like vitamins?

Yes ; I am also the vet doctor too...i've had children wait in line (or some just approach me during the line) to "repair" their animal (either they undid it or whatever)....

I politely finish the one I am making and ask the next child if they mind that I help the animal...and will make their balloon immediately next (never had one say "no" yet).

The biggest problem is that more adults and 'tweens demand the balloons (unpaid volunteer church events)...and verbally talk as if Pedals is not listening (to all) conversations... things like
1. can't you go faster
2. i've been here 45 minutes and the line hasn't moved
3. can I have three balloons (so and so are scared of clowns) {if I see the people in reference, and they are I might}
4. when I politely state that the line starts back there (pointing clownishly of course); they state to their children no honey, we don't want that stupid balloon

With all the comments Pedals usually does not reply to them ---just continue talking and twisting with the child in front..
Makes the event go quicker and the child is usually happy in the end!

If there are still children waiting... keep twisting until everyone has ONE. Once everyone has one, start doing a different activity and distract them.... When children are misbehaving, it's usually because they are bored. This comes from mommy experience! Distractions are what clowns are generally good at, so keep the kids doing something!

This is usually more of a problem with me during my resturant gig, as I'm there 6-7, while the event is 5-8, It's a "school night" for one of the local elem. schools, I try to stick to the one design a piece as I'll have several get back in line. Problem. is there is usually so many people it's hard for me to keep track of who has one already as ususally MOM has them at her table and sends the kid back to get her one. I tell them, only one, still some slip through.

So far birthday parties no problem, except once and that was more my fault, she told me it could be more than 30 kids but she didn't think that many would show up, instead extra showed up, but I had brought another jr to assist Flower so it worked out alright.
