Default need some Gospel magic tricks

Well fellow Joeys, I offered to help out our church by clowning for Bible School one night. I'm looking forward to it. I am also apprehensive. I haven't been able to come up with any scriptural applications for my tricks. I have the stratosphere, the milk pitcher, the coloring book,an ickle pickle change bag, the silk serenade, chinese sticks, and a few odds and ends. I need all the advise, help anyone may have.
Thanks,
Scruffy

Just about any trick can be made to fit your theme with a little creativity. I personally don't do any gospel magic but with the tricks you mentioned I could come up with several varitions on the theme. For example with your stratsphire the three balls could be god 8O , jesus and the red ball that pops up where you don't want it to could be the devil. If you don't do things the way you are suposed to the devil can pop up where you least expect him to. Get the idea. If you are interested in learning more gospel magic look up Dwane Laghlin. He does whole workshops on Gospel magic.
Hope this helps

When I used to do illusions I had a variation on the disapearing money trick where I appeared to put the money into an envelope and then 'accidentally set it on fire allowing the audience to think the trick had gone wrong. In doing so I would make a point of not trusting in money. Later I would make the money re-appear (often from behind the donators ear or in their pocket. This works great at kids parties when you get a parent to donate a large value note. For some reason you always got their attention as the envelope goes up in flames! With the recovery trick you can also make the point of trusting in god and not your own understanding.

Default Clown magic

I had about forgotten this one. I did the BibleSchool program, bu they had me do it during game time. I had wanted to tie it into the theme of the BIble School (Olympics) But just couldn't come up with anything that I liked.
What I did do was to do my show at game time under the pretense that I got a magic set for my birthday and wanted to show the kids a few tricks...It went over very well.

If you have the Tarbell course in magic - and I dont think there is a better set of books to be found. There are companion books for Volume 1 and 2 that have gospel applicaitons

You can order these from Mr. Magic in Little Rock Arkansas (America's largest magic store) if you cant find them locally. I'll try and post the contact information for you here sometime soon. (everything is still boxed up from my move, and I cant find the info yet)

ALso, I know that Randy Christensen puts out several good books on Gospel clowning. I read his stuff for years and was honored to meet him two years ago at a conference. He also has a magazine called "the Cross and the Clown" that might help with some ideas

I am personally looking to work up a routine around a song I just heard today called "Fool for You" but I have to find out who the artist is and get the CD first. I was very inspired by the song and the possibility of using it for a pantomime and maybe even a promotional video.

thats my $.02 worth

Hi, I use my change bag to touch on the story about how Jesus fed 5000, with only a little bit. I have someone put about 3 kernels of corn (representing 3 loaves of bread) into my change bag, then i have to other side filled with popcorn. ....Bascially I touch on the story telling them how jesus fed many with few loaves ....... "faith"

These are all great suggestions! Hey Minnie, I might use the corn/popcorn one myself! When you are performing for children with ill health, sometimes a good visual incorporated with faith goes a long way! Even if you can remove the child from their pain momentarily, you are doing the good work! Sometimes I use a flashlight mounted to my back. I may ask our creator, "Is Billy going to get better real soon"? When the light goes off... It's a sign! Slighty a fib, but God's power of suggestion helps heal these wonderous bodies he made for us! Thanks! R.C.F.
