Default Helpppp....

O.K. this Sunday the minister has asked for a 'Clown Communion'. We are a progressive church with a conservative minority. I don't want to offend anyone, but think this will be great for the majority.

I plan on entering after the sermon(on sharing and joy) with a pram carrying a bundle wrapped in a shawl. After a short talk about the last supper being a group of friends having a meal and discussin on their occupations and those of the congregation I will say "I am a Clown, we are all welcome at God's table", then un wrap the 'Baby' which is a large loaf of bread. The gift of God for the people of God.

Communion will be served by myself and the minister, encouraging people to have a large chunk of bread and a cup of juice, remembering a meal with friends.

I need to polish it up a bit but thats the idea. What do others think? Feel free to comment poitive or negative but please hurry I don't have much time....
Luv ya all
Jellybeanz.

Well, have you run it by your pastor first? He would know better than anyone if there is a chance for offense.

I think it's a cute idea.

When my Rector wanted a clown service, I went to clown-ministry.com for ideas. I found some I liked but my Rector quickly vetoed my ideas but came up with very good ideas as well. It is best to work with the Rector/Pastor/Priest, especially if you want to do it again!

There might be a way to better play up the "I am a clown" aspect to kind of communicate that we are all broken people in need of Christ's healing. You're representing us all, but we are all in some sense "clowns".

That's a hooot! I've never heard of such a thing as clown communion. Hmm...you could really do a lot with that.

And Tim, that was very moving. See, you have a little seriousness in you. Is that a word? inherently funny, I guess.
God bless

Oh there'splenty of substance there under all of the silliness. (Some people think I'm too highbrow serious, actually). It takes an understanding of the human condition to be truly (and inteligently) funny.

also check out www.clown4christ.com. they maybe willing to help, I've seen this done in a silent skit to music, at a convention, but I can't recall the clown who did it.

O.K. It has happened and the reception was great. The worst comment was "that was different". Unfortunatly I am leaving town next month and will be finding a new church elsewere.
One of the things that helped was the fact that I am well known in this congregation (how many churches have a clown for treasurer? Don't answer that...).
Am now looking for other Christian clowns in Adelaide, South Australia.
Thanks for the comments.
Luv ya all

Well, good luck on the move! Hope you find a new parish that will be as welcoming as this one.

Remember St. Paul said he was a fool for Christ and encouraged us to be the same.
