Simple skits with simple props and costumes has worked for me. Lot's of the parables work as well as the famous O.T. ones. We do a skit called "The king at the door" by Brock Cole that is loads of fun for a fairly small group. He has many others. Lots of scripts are available. I don't know about the clowning aspect though. I usually let the kids take the lead. I'm constantly amazed at the ideas and antics they come up with.
