I agree with most of the thoughts on the circus clowning. Majority of the circus clowns I have worked with have all done more than one job. The acts are set up and they know when to go on bye the schedule. When they arent up they are changing out the different rings, pulling cables, and making the show run. It is all what you make of it. If you want to give it your all, I suggest one of the many schools and clown colleges. I have been a Shrin Clown for five years and I will never learn enough. Constantly learning and meeting others is what keeps my creative mind spinning. I love clowning and if my life leads me somewhere I am sure to enjoy it.

So I read Under the Big Top: A Season with the Circus by Bruce Feiler who is a travel writer and spent a season with the Clyde-Betty Circus back in the early ninties as a clown. I ate it up. I still want to do it.

You really should read 'Water for Elephants.' It is about the early years in the circus and is very well researched and written.

I made my non-clown book club read it, and they all loved it.

You don't need to be a clown to love it. I loved every aspect of it.
