Medicine Show
Hey everyone. I'm leaving for my "big" gig tomorrow (big meaning for me pay over $100 and a motel room payed for!) and the show I'm in is "Professor Marmalade's Medicine Show".
I was wondering if any of you had ideas for possible medicine show tonics that would lend themselves well to clowning. Right now we have Mind Tonic (allows you to read minds) and Magic Tonic (allows you to do magic). Also, we'd like to sell little handmade objects that fit the theme. Right now we're thinking garishly painted matchboxes for a flea circus and small fairy catching system with a mini net etc. Anyone have some other cool ideas on what we can sell? Also, any skits, jokes or other related comedic bits would be welcome!

Off the cuff I might suggest a humor tonic...It jogs the funny bone. When an assistant drinks it and nothing happens the Doc hits his funny bone with a small hammer.
Is it true that a groan is as good as a laugh?  Maybe memory tonic... It doesn't work but the person doesn't remember why he took it in the first place. P.S. I don't know if she still makes them, but I knew an artist who made these wonderful little "fairy bottles" out of tiny glass bottles covered with polymer clay. She'd put wire and beads on top so the overall effect was like something out of I Dream of Jeannie. Her web site is no longer up but her bottles were a lot like these Bottles of Hope. You could have the really exotic elixers from Shangri-La in them

I give out small bags of jellybeans with a label of colors matching what the "pill" is for, Red--Memory, Blue--aches and pains, Yellow--humor etc...
The kids love them.

hey what about including some hospital humor, like a medicine bottle with glass glued on for prescr. glasses, kidney beans for kideny pills, etc.?
