Sassy,
Creating a website from scratch can either be very simple or the hardest thing in the world...
If you know HTML or have a host that provides a basic template, then you can get up and running quickly. For me, the hard part is always coming up with good content and graphics to make add to the website.
I have three domains, one was very simple. It is the website that I created for myself (as a person not a clown). I have my work resume, tons of pictures, and a blog. I have a second that is my family's last name. I really don't know, what, if anything to put there. I really wanted it so people in my family could have a personalized email address. The third is a placeholder for a future business if I go into consulting. Based on the domain name, it could also be a good clown website.
If you need some help, you can drop me a line.

I have a host who is a friend of my son's who is not charging me but will give me the basic template and I can add or delete as I go...All I paid for was the .com (Tell me this was the easy way Mike).
I don't know the first thing about this so if you have experience I can draw from I would love it if you could share...
Thanks Mike!

That was the easy way Sassy! Use the template definitely. A easy program (relatively speaking) to build or edit a site with is "Microsoft Frontpage." There, you can build a web page without having to mess with the HTML Coding too much. There are other, more powerful programs you could use, but for most of them, you would really have to know what you were doing.
I would highly recommend that you get the friend of your sons over to your place, for a basic web page tutoring. It is very easy once you know what you are doing, but if you don't it is very hard to explain. There also might be public basic web design classes or workshops in your community, hosted by the Better Business Bureau, or the Public Library. You will definitely want to check them out if so. Failing that, there are books on it in your library.
My last advice, is play with it. Think of it as big puzzle, and don't be afraid to push the buttons... Finally: save! save! save! save! save!
Good luck!

My website, www.troupecomique.com is hosted for free on Website Builder for Website Building - Moonfruit SiteMaker and I have the web address (the troupecomique.com part) forwarded to troupecomique.moonfruit.com
That way I can use their super easy and nice looking builder while still having my domain address. It's domain forwarding and your host should be able to set that up for you for free if you want it.
Also, I get my domain names from godaddy.com for 9 bucks a year so in case someone is looking for a domain godaddy has a great price!

I have had web pages since the early 1990's. First it was a page at school, then a page with my dial-up company, then my new dial-up company. I was helping with my community's website and one of the members was a partner in a web hosting business. He hosted my website for free. I only had to pay to register the domain. Can't beat free. I do everything by hand.
If you don't have a template, I would suggest starting simple. Build a website with about five pages (Home, About Me, Pictures, References, Contact Me). The Home page would be the welcome page and link to the other pages. About Me - What do you do, clown, juggle, face paint, etc. The areas that you work (how far you will drive for a party) Professional training or organizations that you belong to. Pictures - Pictures of you in action, faces you have painted, ballons, etc. References - quotes from happy customers. Contact Me - Your name, address, phone number, email address, etc. so people can book you for their party.
Check out what other clowns/magicians/entertainers have on their websites. Don't copy them, but use them for inspiration.
If your son's friend can't help you get a basic website posted, I may be able to help.
