Default What makes you hungry?

Allow me to fill you in on a situation.
I am a big fan of fasting. I've been doing it for about four years and I always do it responsibly. Naturally, when I fainted in the shower this morning I knew I had to eat something. I've only been fasting for seven days (my record is two and a half weeks) so that was strange to me, but I did neglect to consume starches before I started so I pretty much brought this on myself.
The problem is that I have no desire to eat or even to drink anything besides water. I've tried drinking a small amount of soda to make me crave sweets, watching the food network and smelling what others are cooking. Still, I have absolutely no desire to eat anything.
So, give me some advice...what makes you hungry?

Watching a train pulling cattle cars last night as I awaited my ride to the hotel made me long for fresh beef.

I'm interested in how you fast. Is it a complete abstaining from food or some sort of partial/minimal eating schedule or what?

I don't think the cattle car would work for me, I'm a vegetarian.

When I fast, it's a complete water fast about 99.9% of the time. I haven't really thought about why I do it, though. When I am fasting, it makes me more aware of my surroundings and sharpens my senses, it boosts my creativity and it's just fun to me.

Clown chat on thursday nights at 9 EST makes me hungry. Every week there is some sort of discussion on junk food. Either what everone is snacking on or what they wish they were snacking on. Calavera, you may want to try meditation to heighten senses and focus energy and creativity. If you're fainting the fasting is not good for you.

I appreciate the concern, Lolly, but I really don't think it's bad for me. Fasting is an ancient art that calls for responsibility in the activity. This occasion marks the first time in four years that I had fainted and several factors influenced it. To begin with, before I fast I make it a priority to eat foods that are high in carbohydrates ranging from whole grain products to a simple apple, which I neglected to do this time. Second, I was in a hot and steamy shower which I feel could have majorly influenced it.
As a responsible faster, I realize that I need to nibble on a little something but I can't bring myself to do it due to my complete lack of hunger.
Meditation is a good way to sharpen senses and I do try to squeeze it in every now and then along with my sorry excuse for yoga, though my day is usually so busy that I hardly have time for it and I find it much easier to fast. True, it's not for everyone, but it does work for me.

Over 10 years my sister got involved trying to get some publicity for a group of Tibetans on a hunger strike in front of the UN, and when the Dalai Lama asked them to break their fast they did so with carrot juice. They told her it was best for quick rejuvenation after fasting.

Carrot juice sounds like a winner to me. Thanks, Princess.
