Default Elephant painting an elephant

"Elephant Paints Self Portrait" via YouTube
ERROR: If you can see this, then YouTube is down or you don't have Flash installed.

I know the elephants are trained to do this, but still it's an amazing demonstration of skill.

That is amazing. It makes me a little sad to thing of how they have been treated by humanity for so long. Such inteligent and beautiful beings.

I'm with you, Coco. One half of me wants to rave about the phenomenon and one half wants to rant about animal cruelty. Watching the video makes me wonder a little about how exactly this elephant learned the trick and if harsh contact was involved but I'm majorly preoccupied about how flippin' cool that was.
I am a horrible whistle-blower.

I wasn't thinking so much about how the elephant learned that 'trick'. I was more thinking that seemed to be proof of their fuction level. He seemed to be so careful with each thing he did. Maybe I'm simple minded but I believe he knew what he was doing.
I was thinking about how they are used to perform by people who are not very nice. Some people are now understanding a little more about them.

No, that's not a simple-minded thing to think. I'm just the person who always assumes the worst in things, kind of part of who I am. It comes in handy sometimes.

For the record, this was spotted on Snopes.com. According to the website and its sources, this is not a hoax (which happens to be one of the first things that I thought.)
So it is what it appears to be, though sources say it was trained to do so. This elephant has been taught to replicate certain patterns, rather than consciously and independently making a self portrait.
Ha! The Parade-Rainer strikes again!

What is it with Northerners that put sugar in cornbread?? Thats not cornbread! When you put sugar in cornbread it becomes CAKE!!!

Put the sugar in the tea! Thats where it belongs! I like my tea to be so sweet that I can pour it on my pancakes if I run out of syrup!
