I'm intrested enough to ask a bunch of dumb questions. What color sceme did you decide on. Are you making a mural on the walls or pictures on canvas? What kind of paint are you using? What insight into clowns have you gotten from us? Has the baby's mommy given you any ideas to work with? When do you think it will be done? And lastly, why is the sky blue?

Okay, here goes the description. Just promise you won't laugh, I'm starting to think that it's a stupid idea now.

Okay. The concept of this three-part piece is an innocent romance.
The first picture to be put up will be a Whiteface male clown looking downward slightly. His arm extends as if holding something downward, though his arm goes out of frame so we cannot see it.
Beside (and slightly lower to) that picture is the continuation. It it put out in a landscape manner as opposed to the other two parts which are set in portrait.

In this second picture, we see the continuation of the sleeve and hand of the first picture. It will either be holding an over-sized flower, or a balloon flower. On to the third part. This is just a tad lower to the first picture.

The last picture is of a female Auguste clown modeled slightly after one of Coco's pictures. She is looking slightly upward to the slightly downward looking male.

When finished, the pictures will be hung up on the wall in frames for each of them. I have decided not to use canvas, but to use my trusty heavy and large charcoal sketch pad. I am going to use a combination of a light application of acrylic paint and a touch of charcoal for the details and base. In the past, this method has produced "lighter and brighter" results which would be appropriate for a child's room.

I have set down the sketches for all three parts and have put down a color scheme for the female. I have not put one down for the male nor have I put down the color for the flower picture. I also cannot decide between "over sized" flower or "balloon" flower.

If you have any suggestions for the male clown or the flower, please tell me.

Now, to answer one of Lolly Plop's questions, the impact this forum has had on me is great. After talking with some members and getting the feel of the clown community, I picked up some books at the library on clowning because I was honestly interested at this point. After finding out that clowning is indeed an art form that requires discipline and skill, I have much more respect and fascination for it. It is definitely a field I would like to research further.
My anxiety toward clowns has also diminished greatly due to getting to know the art of clowning better.

So, there you go. That's my idea so far.

That sounds great! Very simple, and meaningful. Can't wait to see how they turn out! I vote for a oversized flower. I picture a half wilted sunflower, but I am not sure why.

Sounds really good. I think the flower should be a well-done balloon flower. A white-faced clown would give a "perfect" flower. Just my 2 cents,
Miss D.

Sounds wonderful, I can't wait to see it either!!! I also think since it's a clown theme that the flower should be a balloon flower. I like the way you researched the subject before you actually started it, and that it has also helped you with your visions of "us clowns"!!!! All the best to your cousin and the new little bundle!!!

It's a shame you're limited to paintings. I get the feeling you could have made good use of a whole wall!

As far as ideas for the male whiteface... Are you thinking of something along the lines of Frosty Little (say classic circus from the 70's) or the older and fancier Poirot/Harlequin style? You might try visiting, if you haven't already, Pat Cashin's site clownalley.net for older pictures of the tarditional circus look.

Just out of curiosity, is there any carry over between the second and third picture? A background wallpaper or a dress ruffle or something? Picture 1 connects with picture 2 it is almost like they could be one one wall and around the corner the third picture. Or the third picture could be packed away if there wasn't room at some point in the future. It wouldn't be necessary to connect it. In fact I kind of like the idea of either no connection or a subtle background carryover better. I look forward to seeing the finished product(s).

Thanks for the update.

Just curious... Is the whiteface clown modeled after anyone from Clown-forum??? A Balloon flower sounds great... that way if the balloon busts you can call it "Pop Art"

What is it with Northerners that put sugar in cornbread?? Thats not cornbread! When you put sugar in cornbread it becomes CAKE!!!

Put the sugar in the tea! Thats where it belongs! I like my tea to be so sweet that I can pour it on my pancakes if I run out of syrup!

That would be fun, but they rent their home so it's kind of out of the question.
