The first time I met my mentor, she told me about this. She said even at the grocery store..kids can tell! I think it shows that kids do look for the good in things, a habit adults decreasingly loose.

OH, I get that too... Kids are awesome. they have a sense to unique - almost as good as a 'MOM's Sixth sense".. you all know how a MOM KNOW EVERTYHING!!!.... simply eeerie.. but so true.
I have to share these with you, rather condensed versions, but both were so unique
I had an incident once where a little girl, I have never seen before - I was not in costume - stopped -looked at me, and ran over and gave me a BIG hug... well it was around my knees- but it was a big knee hug (lol). The Mother's eye were about as big as mine were in surprise. I simply mouthed to her I was a clown - and the mom said, that the little girl NEVER did anthing like that before, was normallmy very shy. mmmmm
Another one was in WalMart with my grandkids shopping - we walked by a mom, dad, with their little guy in the cart - yells out.. HI and starts talking to me - all big and smiles. Again, I mouthed 'i'm a clown' to parents -

I haven't had the experience of having a child recognize me as a clown. But it is very common for me to do something or have happen to me that causes a lot of embarrassment and people see why I am a clown.
For example: I work as a security supervisor. We have lots of cameras that we monitor. One day, one of my officers came to the office and said that a bird was swooping down at people walking by because it had build a nest and layed eggs; I believe it was a mocking bird. I told him to be brave and go check it out. He didn't want to so I instructed him to watch me on one of the cameras and see how fearless I will be. When I got out to the location of the bird, the bird swooped down and I thought it was going to put out my eyes, so I ran. That crazy bird chased me about 100 yards before it stopped. Little did I know that my officer had recorded the whole thing and decided to show it to a few people who showed it to a few more people. You can guess the fun they had with me for the next few days. As I was saying; it's the things that I do or happen to me that shows to people why I am a clown.

If we truly love clowning then our characteristics will follow us no matter what we are wearing at the time. We have all done it before... costume comes off then we are walking along the street and a kids walks by and we wave historically at them or give them a wink only to realise we are no longer in costume... it goes right over the adults head but the kids get the drift

Yeah, I get that a lot too, but I think it might be partly because the kids and I "see eye to eye". My husband and I joined a new church last June and I didn't know ANY of the kids ... I did know some of the grownups, but no kids. As we were waiting to shake hands with the pastor after the service, there were these two little girls behind me and I smiled at them and one little girl whispered to the other one that she thought I was a clown. The other one started to laugh and told me what she said. I said, "well, I AM a clown." The one who knew I was asked me if I had been at her cousin's birthday party a couple of weeks ago and I had. The other little girl said, "how did you KNOW?" She said she could tell from my eyes.
Plus ... the other way ... a couple of years ago, we had a professional photographer come and take pictures and as I was waiting to get mine done, the photographer said, "what's your name?" I said, "Nettie Belle." She said, "no ... I mean your REAL name ... is it Lynette?" I said yes ... then she told me who she was and we had worked together 30 years ago and I had not seen her since, and here I was in a blue wig ... Hmmm ... makes me wonder if I looked like a clown 30 years ago!
It's interesting ... I don't know how people know. Then there are others who say they NEVER would have known.

yes....they DO recognize a clown when they see one....
i am not a clown yet.... but there's something different when you like to make people happy.... some adults can, just like the kids, sense the energy from a person and say a lot about it...i DONUT know if you're understanding me...my english is very poor... i gave it some cents but it's already hungry...
well...back on the topic...yea,they can and i cant explain why....because i can, too! ;3

I think yes, kids just know things. Most are a good judge of character. I have kids all the time respond to me w/ smiles & waves that I have never seen before. Kids can tell if you are a "kid person" or not - maybe not necessarily a clown, but some can even tell that.

It happens to me all the time, and not just with kids. And as for the difference between my "clown" personna and my "real" personna--what difference? When I walk out of my house, I'm "on", whether I'm in makeup or not--usually not (allergies).

... so ... today I was in Hobby Lobby at the fabric counter (in my jeans and a plain blue top with my usual Saturday morning UN-makeup look) waiting for the clerk to cut my fabric, and there was a mother wheeling her 2 or 3 year old little girl in the cart and the little girl shouted, "MOM!" Then she went to whisper a secret to her mom in the usual 2-3 year old voice that could be heard all over the store and she said, "she's a CLOWN!" Her mom tried to shush her and pull her away, and I said, "that's ok ... I AM a clown. I just want to know how she knew." I asked the little girl and she didn't know ... she just did. Hmmmmm ... weird, huh?
