If you are going to censor anything then start with the news it will show anything that will get ratings ( you know the thing that says people really want to see it )
Of course then the information that we get will not be true
Also lets censor the books like history so the Indians were glad we stole there country and the people of Viet Nam wanted us there
The civil rights movement only involved 2 people
of course there is the biggest censor job in the world
The churches decision on what books should be in the Bible
Now these are just some examples if you let other people do your censoring its up to you what you want to see and hear
And what I want to see and hear is up to me and should not interfere with you
As far as children my wife and I always figured if they were old enough to ask the question then they were old enough for the true answer
Also we always have sunday dinner together its one time we can all talk

Mmhmm, I see what you're doing there. You're lumping all forms of censorship into one definition.
Good fuel for the debate though, so thanks.

Default Ummm....

Better idea .lets teach every one the open end of faith and hitory (like how there both coneted ) and let every one meke there own choises. Did you know that the engish thought that blacks were the marked damed genirations of adems chiled and that was why it was ok if they were slaves, or that the koran says that all that don't belive it should be wiped out of the living world.

There is no real way to compare relgious fanaticism with basic censorship. Sure, some of the aspects are "kind of" the same, but fundamentalists and fanatics of any religion almost make it embarrassing to be a human.

Also, putting every form of censorship under a blanket definition isn't possible for a realistic debate. For the most part I am against censorship, but someone can always find a "what if" scenario that could make that decision be "wrong." The issue with "what if" scenarios is that they are generally endless and unrealistic.

The news has been censored for years by the producers and editors. CNN and Fox News often report opposite findings on the same stories - pick your preference whether you are Republican (Fox) or Democrat (CNN). I'd argue that the longest running fictional television show is your nightly news...

Actually, the Catholic Church kept books in when Martin Luther took some out.

In the earliest years of the Church (when the Bible was first canonized), they certainly did not have more power than the Roman government. Becoming pope was a certain death sentence.

In later centuries the Church WAS the government in much of Europe.

Willace, can you please explain this Protector, monster, destroyer thing. I am having a bit of trouble following you. Is that a reference to something?
Thanks,
Scruffy

I wish we didn't live in a world where censorship was even needed. In my opinion, the line that separates acceptable and unacceptable keeps moving. I have avoided seeing movies that I felt didn't fit my values. I feel that going to see those movies validates them and gives Hollywood permission to make more movies, or go further over the line in their next attempt. But I would much rather censor content by not giving them my money than having laws enforce some standards. However, I fully support preventing someone from making movies where someone is intentionally being hurt in the process.

With that said, I am often shocked at things that people say is offensive or should be censored. Maybe I have a double standard, I don't know.

I wish everyone could just get along. Sometimes, when the news reports stories and mentions that it was the first african american to accomplish someting (become the governor, coach a team, etc.) By making note of this "first" are they really saying that there is still a difference between blacks and whites?

I don't have the answer. But, I don't believe the government legislated censorship is the answer either.
