If we're talking about government censorship, we have to consider the present government. I doubt if things are going to "clean up" any time soon. Also, we realize that money drives just about everything from fashion to food. We must all stick to our own convictions and let others do the same. Good parenting is not a passive "what ever will be will be" attitude. We all are accountable. Garrison Keillor said yesterday that when he saw his son for the first time, he knew that his own childhood was ended.

IMO, we don't need the government telling us what is appropriate or not. We can use our $ to get companies to produce cartoons, movies, etc that we can enjoy. If they refuse, don't watch what they put out and encourage your friends and family (free speech) to boycott it.

Our federal government already has too much power and seems to always be looking for an opportunity to gain more.

The on-going battle of library censorship made the news today. Read the article here.

If i had a Lybery & i got a list of books i couldn't have & would ball it up & take a free Throw shot into the trash. I pay no mind to thinks i deem stupid & a waste of my time & the other Lyberies should do thesame & insted of lisioning to the list. Or i might look for the books & add them to the shelves jsut to make the people mad for being so stupid

i think that cartoons like bugs bunny and some others were made for adults when they were made....idk what happened, and children begun watching...i think people could continue censoring those cartoons only for adults...btw, the jokes i used to watch in bugs bunny and 3stooges i didnt understand them, until i had studied about world history and the american culture...(the last one could be taken off, because i was born in brazil xD)

children can have a great perception, but their inocency is enough to protect them from the harms of cartoons...

uhm...about this...i think you should read this topic willace wrote:
http://www.clown-forum.com/clown-caf...vs-2007-a.html

it explains WHY criminalty is increasing....
THATS what changed in 50 years....not the censorship...but the education...the parental education, not only the school one.

i think you can imagine the rest for yourselves...

Thank you, Princess, for calling the class to order.

I have often heard "Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it." The examples given are, unfortunely, a reflection of the society of the time. Can we change history? Not really. Can we learn from the past? Only if we want to learn.

I buy a lot of old movies and cartoons (they are cheap) and have noticed many of them now carry disclaimers that behaviors portrayed in them are not considered appropriate today.

How many of us take the time to sit down with our children (or, in my case, grandchildren) and explain to them why some (much) of what they see on TV, in movies, et c., whether old or recent, is either inappropriate or outright wrong?

On the other hand, there are numerous "bits of business" in old movies, cartoons, and recorded performances which are quite good, although they may need a little "cleaning up" or modernizing.

In the end, it is the responsibility of each of us to determine the appropriateness of what we pass on to our childrenn, our audiences, and to society.
