Default Old Words/Phrases and Their Meanings/Origins

Here's something I thought might be fun, a tread about old words and phases their meanings and origins. I have access to a couple of sources for old words and phrases, anyone else that finds something you'd like to share, feel free to add on.

Hum - 'a strong liquor made by combining ale or beer with spirits.'

Wong - 'the meadowland that people used as their commons, where they would meet or take their cows to graze.'

Bellytimber - food.

Flap Dragon - 'A game or sport that involved plucking raisins or other objects placed in a bowl of ignited brandy. It was a sign of bravado, and a point toward the lover's gallentry for him to make a toast to the health of his lady and drain the cup without burning himself.'

Flatchet - sword.

Ha-Ha - 'The kind of ditch that one could not see from a distance to avoid. Victims falling into it unaware or witness must have given it its name.'

Mastigadour - 'watering bit'

That's all for now folks. More later.

Me and my main man Willace went down to the wong for a hum. But on the way we were interrupted by a ha-ha. The car stuck in the mud, we wandered, instead to the local establishment and got ourselves some bellytimer. Well, there was a hearty darlin' at the bar who we both had an eye fer. And so I challenged Willace to the Flap Dragon. Oh, da barkeep drew it dare from ye ol' mastigadour till we were drunk. And dee womin wouldn't go home with eider ef us by dis time in de night: leaving our flachets flaccid.
