Steve Martin's Autobiography

I picked up Steve Martin's autobiography Born Standing Up from the library the other day. I've always been a big Steve M. fan -- in fact, I think I still have his album (in vinyl mind you!) somewhere. But it never occurred to me that this book would be interesting and helpful to clowns.

Steve started out as a magician and worked hard to come up with a routine that was unlike anything anybody had ever done before. It was fascinating reading about the thought process that was behind his comedy. Anyway, it's a quick read and interesting for any entertainer -- including clowns.

I always loved Steve Martin as a stand up. I like his comedy movies too especially, "The Jerk" I didn't know he was a magician first. I loved his balloon twisting skit, he did it way back when on SNL. He very seriousley and very fast twists and manipulates a balloon into a twisted mess, holds the creation out proudley and proclains, "DNA." I'll have to keep my eye out for his book.
