A tip for clients in my home town is "Find out who the ONLY clown in town !!"

Cause that just happens to be me.

What is it with Northerners that put sugar in cornbread?? Thats not cornbread! When you put sugar in cornbread it becomes CAKE!!!

Put the sugar in the tea! Thats where it belongs! I like my tea to be so sweet that I can pour it on my pancakes if I run out of syrup!

DO NOT just go out and hire a clown from your local party store unless you know he is really a clown and not some drunk employee with makeup slapped all over his face.

I always tell the mom's when they call to make sure you can see a picture of the entertainer you are about to pay to entertain your children. You get what you pay for. Some of the clowns in my area are very sub par. Some of them think they can slap on some makeup and a cheap costume and bill themselves out at the same rate as some of the better clowns. I also tell them to make sure the entertainer has insurance. Missing one or more of those should send up a red flag!

I would suggest that they check a reference or two.

References for certain...

I also invite them to one of my public gigs (Theatres, Bowling Alleys, Restaurants, etc) to get a taste of what I offer.

This brings (some) customers into the business I'm working (which makes my employer happy) and occassionally generates business for myself. I'm negotiating a % discount if one of my patrons buys a ticket or meal at the establishment I'm working on a particular night in exchange for some perks from the business...
