Growing Up
One piece of advice I've heard from clowns is to pretend that you're just a big kid, having fun. I can accept that as good advice, but out of character, ho much of a grownup do you have to be? I still watch little kid's shows sometimes (I'm watching "Chowder" as I'm typing this), but sometimes I think its kind of strange. Its not that I'm ashamed, but sometimes I'm too immature for my own good. Has anyone else had trouble keeping their inner child from calling ALL the shots?

I'm 52 and I still watch kids shows. If I want to go see a kids movie I borrow someone's kid so I don't look too odd going to see a kids movie by myself. My favorite part of being a clown is going toy shopping for my character. This would include magic, balloons and props, puppets. I call practicing, playing with my toys.

Talk abt toys.. i made a pacifier that rattles... I inflate waterballoons inside printed transparent balloons..and also put some beads to make the annoying sound... i also make heart on a stick...

Allowing yourself to play is one of the best parts about being a clown. We stop stifeling our desire to have fun. But I would caution clowns seeking their inner child to remember we are still responsible adults. It takes work and intelligents to reveal the child like qualities in ourselves while maintaining the maturity to create a wonderful experiance for our audiance.
I'm not trying to rain on anyones parade but I hate to see our proffession over simplified. At times people say "all you have to do is act like a kid". That might be a start but there is so much more work to be done.
