100% cotton fabrics look best at first. However, the cotton/polyester blends wrinkle less and fade less from washing. I've done both and still don't know which I prefer, so have a variety of fabrics in the clown closet. I usually end up deciding based on the designs and colors I find when shopping. Have fun!

Hi, Hollywood!

I just had my costume made. I would highly recommend a cotton/polyester blend, something like 60/40. Cotton is breathable, but also shrinks and wrinkles. A blend would give you the breathable fabric, but it would also wear better.

Also, I would recommend you have the costume lined. I didn't but wish I had. It helps your costume hang properly and it'll also help pull wrinkles out. A few seamstresses have told me that lining it won't make it extra hot, unless you want it lined with heavy fabric. It just helps the overall look of the costume.

Don't forget to plan your pockets. Place them in strategic places all over and have the person sewing your costume (if it isn't you) go over that plan so they know what you want. You can never have enough pockets!!

My two new costumes consist of modified medical uniforms (nurses smock made into a vest and matching scrub pants one set red, one set blue). these are 50% polyester, 50% cotton, and I used the vests when civilian at the Clown Adventure sessions, and when in costume and make -up for the paradability. I didn't have any problem with wrinkling with this fabric, and it seemed to stay clean.
