Dottie, are you using Mehron's regular line or their new line of make-up that uses a silicone type base? I know the silicone stuff is offered in some of the theatrical colors but I didn't think they had produced a clown variety. Now I am going to have to read the labels tomorrow at the store because I was sure that petroleum was a big ingredient. Have you tried Ben Nye and it doesn't work for you or are you sticking to the tried and the true?

Dan, I'm just using the basic Mehron. Nothing fancy!

And I have not yet tried Ben Nye.....I've heard good things about them, but I'm still a little wary to make any changes.......do you know if they are petroleum free?

Tim. Oh. My. I don't even know what to say. hahahaha!!!

Makeup by Ben Nye: Fire Red, Beard Stipple, Light Auguste, I also use neutra set powder and final seal.

Makeup by Mehron: Clown white Lite, jumbo black makeup pencil, and I use no sweat by Proknows.

I have used the same basic face Since I created Scruffy back in '84. I started out using Steins makeup. Up until recently, I could do my makeup in about ten minutes, however, I've changed the way I applied it. I now apply the flesh completely over my face and neck, then apply the "sunburn" area, and then apply the stippled beard over the top. I am much happier with the results.

The trade off is I'm now back in the 20-25 minute time frame. As far as changes to the makeup. I no longer use the tears, and If you look at the old photos in the gallery, I had to change the eyes. The new version is not as heavy looking as the old and i think much less scary looking

Default Make-up

Takes me an hour from the time I start getting ready until I'm ready to walk out the door. So I guess the make-up takes about 40 minutes. I can't be a white face any more because of eye problems so I use the flesh color base with rainbow color stripes as the eye shadow, heart cheeks and nose. For some reason, though, my mouth is never exactly the same. OH well! I made a new costume (exactly like my old one) a couple of weeks ago and really worked on getting my wig "fluffed" out again. Today I'm going to start painting a new pair of shoes.

How long have you been clown Mindy? I remember in one of your posts that you have been visiting nursing homes or hospitals for three years or more. Do you do face painting, or balloons, or magic? After all if you have worn out one costume already...

Makeup times vary for me, the beard can be difficult sometimes, and I just reworked the makeup. I tend to around 20-30 minutes, and hope to get that down a bit. I think the pattern is an easy one, and the outline of my facial hair does a lot of the work for me, and I only really have to outline the eyes and eyebrows. The "cheeks" are a semicircle of the red going from the beard to the cheekbones and fading, so it's quick, and the interior of my mouth from the beard is a contiguous white, minus the black bottom lip. I should be able to get this much quicker.
