One thing to keep in mind is that since you wear glasses as a clown people won't be able to see the fancy eye rainbow very easily. I like the eyelashes on top of the glasses, maybe those could be made to be the rainbow.

And yes I meant closer to the nose with the hearts

Hi, Mindy!

I want to emphasize a point that Gabby made - the clown
face is really meant to emphasize your expressions, not to
be a mask. It was used to help the audience in the back of
the auditorium to be able to see your emotions, back before
they had microphones to help get voice projected back to
the back of a room.

Use the natural "smile lines" of your face to help guide where
makeup should go to be more expressive for you.

For the mouth, most folks recommend that it not go any
wider than the outside corners of the eyes.

The current thinking is that too much red for the mouth
equates to blood or a big red splotch with a black hole in it
when you open your mouth.

Try a muzzle more like Gabby's - a little red on the bottom
lip only, surrounded by a white muzzle. Pay attention to your
smile lines and use those as a guide for how big to make the
white.

Then blend some red around that to rosy up the cheeks.

Try that, see what you think!

I think this might be a good thread for Princess to "pin." There is quite a bit of good information that most newbies struggling with their own makeup would benefit from. Unless we want to put together a makeup hints and helps page. Sort of a tutorial without the depths of Strutters.

Howdy all! its been a while... i seen the makeup emergency and ran over here to throw in my opinion,

Line the bottom of your eyes... its called the "Live Eye Technique" it makes your eyes look bigger brighter...

try misting your face with water after you set... if that doesnt work use a red compressed powder and go over your mouth after you set it... your natural body oils will brighten your make-up over time...

Ok, I have a make-up questioin.

I got my "starter kit" from Bubba Sikes and a few pieces from Mehron. I also have Strutters book, so I followed the book and drew up what I wanted on a clear sheet above a pic of my face. The general layout of the face went on well, but I had an issue with color. In case you didn't read in earlier posts, I'm a newbie and I'll be a happy hobo clown (neutral smile.) The issue I had was with the lite auguste color. On the areas where that was the only shade, I didn't like the orange-like color it left. I want more of a dirty flesh look. I didn't have any trail dust and I'm betting that will be the answer. How else can I achieve the correct shade for dirty skin? I'm supposed to cover all exposed skin, so I will have to get it right or I'll have a lot of skin looking bad. Any advice???

The Mehron Auguste is probably about the ugliest Auguste color out there. One option is adding a little red and just a dab of black in with a spoonful of the Auguste. Mix it all together, the black will help with the dirty look and the red should help cut down on the "orangishness" but an easier and I think better option is to go with either a Ben Nye auguste or a Mehron flesh tone base, even Jim Howle augustes are great for a situation like yours, and Jim knows hobos!

Thanks for the advice. My dad has some trail dust for me and he said that helps the auguste look like dirty skin rather than the color I ended up with. I'll try that next, then try the flesh tone color. I figure after a few tries I'll have it to a point where I can go out in public.

Forgive me if these suggestions were mentioned, as I just "sped-red" through most of the post and wanted to share a couple of thoughts!!

Bubba Sikes shared a tip with us at Show Me last year with brightening up the colors on your face!!! Permenant markers - yes I know, there is a danger of being a permanent clown (but that may fit some of us!! ), but it does work!!! Powder well and you will have no problem - light strokes with the pen!!!

Another thing that Bubba, as well as others, has mentioned is to keep the red away from the eyes due to something in the red that can cause eye problems (ie - blindness)!!!

And I have heard that having to "spritz" to set your make up is an old-school thing due to the make up that was used back then compared to the newer, better make up that we use now a days!! With that said, I have at times wet a finger and dabbed my lips to bring back the color.

Last thingy - baby powder vs clown white powder!! I am sure this could be a thread of its own!! Baby powder - of course - is a thicker, perfumy powder as opposed to clown white which is made for this specific purpose and is a finer powder!!!

Everybody has their reasons and motives to use what they use - and in "no way" am I promoting the use of any particular brand or product!!!

OK - enuff said!!!

Default Powder

I've found that I do like the clown powder MUCH better than the baby powder. I do like using a wet paper towel to help remove the excess powder. It does brighten the colors & helps to set the make-up better.
