Over the last few years I presented Fire Prevention programs in the schools. I am now retired, but remember one of my best sources being-- "Learn Not to Burn.. Fire Safety Songs" by..JIM POST. These songs are up tempo and really catch the students attention. My program progressed into a 24' backdrop and 9 puppets. Naturally this required more folks, but with the stop, drop, and roll song, burn song, and smoke detector song it is possible to get the message across as an individual. Clown make-up definately contributes to the program because like you pointed out the presentor isn't in the garb of the day. (might I point out my livelyhood was in that garb I proudly wore as a full time firefighter) make-up breaks the ice. Finally a post brought me out of my shell and made me respond to a request. I have been gathering info from lots of you folks without sharing. now I feel bad. looking forward to sharing what little I know. Sparky "T"

It is good you are making progress. In past presentations i have used cotton to represent smoke to hold over kids while they are on their knees crawling--"get low and go" and felt flames to put on their clothing to teach what to do when your clothes catch on fire--"stop, drop, and roll". The resource i recomended earlier is very good to play while utilizing puppets. Best of luck in your endevours. I remember my days in whisky ta' falls in the early 70"s while stationed with the u.s. Air force--- what a city. Sparky "t"

I HAD TO CHUCKLE WHEN YOU SPOKE ABOUT THE COMMISSARY-- MY ROOMMATES FUTURE FATHER-IN-LAW WAS THE MANAGER THERE IN 1974. WE WOULD VISIT HIM AND WATCH PEOPLE PRIMP IN FRONT OF THE TWO WAY MIRROR USED TO MONITOR THE ENTRANCE. LITTLE DID THEY REALIZE YOU COULD SEE THEM AND ALL THEIR FACE GRIMICES, HAIR COMBING, AND CLOTHES ADJUSTMENTS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, "PEOPLE ARE FUNNY". A SMALL WORLD INDEED. AGAIN IT IS GOOD TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE GROUP. I LISTED AS A NEWBIE SINCE I AM NEW TO THE GROUP. I AM IN MY 28th YEAR WITH A UNIT. I AM STILL LEARNING DAILY AND SO GLAD I DISCOVERED THIS GROUP. Hey Luki!

I'm trying to remember the name of the 'only' fella who does solo fire safety shows at the showcase. I think he's from Glenn Heights Fire Department but I'm not 100% sure. I'll research it and see if I can get him in touch with you. It's awful tough doing a solo fire safety show. You've got absolutely noone to play off of. Heck, it's tough with just two people! You'll enjoy the Showcase though, we always have alot of fun there.

Clown Pie

I live in the little rock area. Originally my home was in the central part of arkansas so far out they piped sumshine to my house. The sun rose between the dirt road and my house. I was blessed enough that uncle sam provided me with a 30 year vocation that helped me "get cultured". That is why i now live in the "big city" the place of my retirement. Keep smilin' sparky "t"

Just thought I'd throw this out there Loki, but you might want to check with your insurance company first for liable reasons. They might want you to have some official training. Good luck and have fun.
