Bambam:
I'm not sure what type of clowning you are interested in. But there is a Smiles Unlimited Clown Ministry chapter in Indy, and they offer periodic "clown schools." Their course consists of a 12-week, once a week three-hour session (I think it's 12 weeks and three hours per session -- I could be slightly off).
During this time, you learn about the different types of clowns and practice doing make up for each. This helps you discover your "inner clown." You learn several skits, and the clowns help you with your first costume. For your "graduation," you do a nursing home show and then have a commencement ceremony at a different location.
The purpose of Smiles is to spread joy to individuals in nursing homes, hospitals, and prisons. The course gives you a good foundation and starting point in clowning, and you can take it as far as you want from there.
Not sure if this is the type of clowning you want to do, but if it sounds like a fit for you, let me know, and I can get you contact info.
I started out with this organization in the Muncie area and found it quite beneficial.

Yes! Our Alley is located in Northern Greenwood Indiana. We will begin another Clown College session THIS month. (August 28th from 7-9p.m.) We offer classes once a year. They are the same as Pickles mentioned above, 12 weeks of learning, (We have 2 ladies who are seamstress' and will sew custom costumes for you), followed by Graduation! When you graduate you will be graduating on a stage and all of the other (25 and growing) clowns do skits and bits (along with you) At that time you are also officially welcomed into our group by a hug and/or a handshake from each and a nice contribution of goods or services to you from each. Followed by certificates and Professional pictures in clown!! If you are wanting to join us we would be glad to welcome you in! The address is: 2045 Averitt Rd - Greenwood, IN 46143 You are welcome to call our President if you would like more information... Just send me a private messege and I will respond with any answers you need.
Thanks Have a FUN-KNEE Day!

Just a note about use of the term "Clown College." I always caution against the use of it. "Clown College" is a trademarked name owned by Feld, Inc. parent company of Ringling. It usually applies to the specific school which they ran for clown training from the late 60s to the mid 90s. When one refers to having attended "Clown College" is carries a certain respect as it generally means that they attended that institution. If someone, even unknowingly, says that they went to a clown college and don't mean the same thing, it not only offers confusion but tends to undermine the clown's respect in the eyes of some. Plus, Ringling does still own the trademark. So it is best not to use the term in training sessions of local groups.

Not a problem. Most people use the term instinctively PRECISELY because Ringling implanted it so significantly in everyone's mind. So I think it is fair game for the average person to mention it when thinking about clowning education. But its also something to learn not to throw around too easily.
