Default Vaudeville Hat

One of the things I can not seem to find anywhere is a decent hat. I particularly like David Shiner's hat but would love to get an old beat up bowler or top hat. Some of my favorite clowns have these odd hats that look like top hats but with a rounded top instead of flat.

I've gone to the hat shops and they don't have anything quite like it. Mikael Rudolph has one in his video on YouTube.

Anyone have any ideas?

Try contacting Karen Bell. She might be able to make one for you along the line of what you want. Karen makes shorter, smaller hats which are basically the thing you're looking for, but would probably need to customize something taller.

You could also try a good jugglingstore. You've got jugglinghats not the same but very similar For example I've got "The manipulator" made by Andersen & Berner. It also gives you the advantage that they are very well made heavier and more solid than normal heads. Great for headmanipulation. Look at http://www.trickswithhats.org/ Also a nice site if you want to learn to manipulate hats.

Also try The Costume Trunk in Peoria, Illinois. He may have it and if not he may be able to get it for you.

Default Vaudeville Hats

Thanks guys! I have considered getting a juggling hat and I think they would be perfect but no one in Seattle sells them so I'd need to get them online and I worry that I would get the wrong size and it'd be a huge hassle. Still I may do that and will definitely check out your suggestions. And the trickswithhats website is great!

I would recommend to go to a local hatshop and fit a few hats no matter how ugly. Look in the inside which size they are. That would be the size you need. This will give you a bigger change the hat that you order will fit well. And when you're in doubt between two sizes take the bigger one. I think its better when it's a bit to big then a bit to small especially when you think about doing some headmanipulation.

Derby's, bowlers, straw skimmers, and top hats can be found on ebay. I found mine in an antique/ junk shop. I knew it was perfect when I saw it.

Try a 6 way hat (like this): http://www.withaswing.com/hats/6-way/

Just shape it how you like and maybe add a little something inside to hold the brim in place.

Tip hat Fitzwilly

The hat from You Tube looks like it might be a special. It is similar to a standard derby or bowler but with a taller crown. Many times derby's are finished in silk for that upscale look, the one in the video looks like a heavy duty wool. you might check with Nils Pohl. I don't have a website but he makes a variety of hats for hat manipulating.
