OK... mini top hat question...
After spending the day out in the heat, I thought switching my big heavy top hat for one of the mini ones would look nice plus have the beneift of not entrapping heat on the top of the head. What is the best way to connect these to the wig?
Also, is there a "kinda" norm for where to place it? My first inclination is slightly off to the left but still in the center from front to back...

Safety pins work well. That way you can also remove the hat when it is time to wash your wig. You could sew the hat in place but then you need to cut the thread to wash. I have heard but not seen of a clown sewing small velcro tabs (the soft side) to the wig and the hook side of the velcro to the hat. That way it would stay on but he could take it off during a performance if he wanted to.

I originally used a mini top hat [From Betty by the way], it has an elastic string inside, I tied it inside the hat then safety pinned it ,using the elastic, on the wig like Fritzwilly mentioned.

Hi Sue.... may I asked how you tied it? That's the part I can't figure out. I'm trying to be careful not to mess the hat up. The elastic string that it came with has metal pieces on each end... did you just poke these through the fabric of the hat itself? Like I said I'm just a scared-y-cat and don't want to ruin it.

mine was already attaced to the hat. one loop, but I just gathered and put a slip not in the middle so it and the extra would stay hid inside the hat, then used [you'll need the large size, atleast I did] safety pin and pinned from inside the wig, it's a little difficult cause you can't see it you have to feel for the string but try and get it as tight as possible and pin each side, mine never came off till I took it off. I'd go look at it but I can't get to it right now. old costume.

a tag gun, like the use at walmart to put price tags on, works well too.

Now that is a great idea Scruffy. I wish I would have thought of it before, it sure would have made a few trial and error attempts with a couple of projects easier.

Scruff that's a fantastic idea!
Bobby pins, and any sort of small barrette would work well. You could also use hat pins, (no they won't poke if you pin them in properly.) or those corsage pins.

Here's a crazy idea....you could glue some small (but strong!) magnets in your wig and on the hat. The hat would stay on, but you could still take it off when needed.
