Wig Color
I have always wondered what color of wigs people wear and why they where drawn to them.
Originally I wore a blue curly wig mutilated to just sit on the top of my skullcap. Now i wear a slightly modified cavemen wig in brown-grey or a light brown modified curly wig.
What do the rest of you wear and why?

Sue's is blue, sapphire blue, she's a true blue friend.
To be honest when I first started I needed to get back into costume because the group I was working with needed an extra clown and basically I was playing the white face role in all our performance without make up. Blue was different from the rest and helped me with the type of ministry clown I wanted to be. The color was important to the character.
now Sally's is Yellow, something totally different. Loose curls cowboy hat, Little smarter than Ellie Mae, but more country like Daisy Mae. [both were blonds I believe]

I've chosen to go for a character which is more human sized, perhaps new vaudevillian, even. As such, I've found it helpful not to overly enlarge anything extensively. Part of this has been to use my natural hair. The color is black. Sometimes I wish it were red or blond or something more bright and varied. But it works. However, due to the darkness of my natural hair shade, I find it helpful to offset this with makeup, costuming, even hats with create some differencial. That has trended blue and red, thus far, with yellow accenting or trim. Also, I tend to keep away from black in my makeup because of the dark hair. Now, I use black for "live eye" and occasionally other accenting, (for one character I have a black moustache, even) but I prefer blue or green or red highlights and outlining to keep a lighter, more inviting look. Black outlining, even, tend to just make the face appear stark in light of the black hair.

I have two wigs. One is red, straight, shoulder length. It's kinda spikey on top so I guess it's a clown mullet hairdo. I think I actually got that one when mullet's were in style. The other one I have is layers of blue, red, yellow, and green curls which is also shoulder length. My clown name was Rainbow when I brought that one.

I realize I asked people to give a reason for their color choice and didn't give mine.
I stick with brown because I am full of.....it.
Really it is because I find that, especially the caveman wig, it just fits my ideal of my clown. Unlike a majority of the clowns I have met who are more Zany in clown I am actually more shy and nervous as a clown.
Its crazy I know.

Orange - favorite color!
In the summer, I choose no wig. It's too hot! Then I put a pony tail on top of my head and tie with an orange ribbon.

My head prefers to go commando under that ginormous hat. I've considered a wig, but my own hair is often multi-coloured as it is, so I'm currently just leaving it as-is.
As my hair grows even longer though, I will probably look at getting a wig, just to fit with Dottie's character. I don't really see her as having long hair OR braids, so a wig may be in her future.
