The problem for most lies in the cost of true clown shoes, however any working clown on this forum will probably back up this statement, "Your clown shoes are the most valuable part of your cosume." You will get what you pay for as the saying goes.
Most clowns are on their feet often LONG hours ....usually on concrete. If you do parades, you'll wish you had good shoes.
I have 4 pair....from different makers and there IS a difference. Based on my personal experiences I will share:
Clown-so-port - beautiful in looks but will break-down fast. Not a very supporting shoe (
Welcome to Clown-So-Port Custom Made Shoes with all Leather)
Spears Shoes - In my opinion the best made pair of shoes I own. Very comfortable and wear like iron. (
Spear's Specialty Shoes - Clown & Theatrical Shoes [Home])
Billy Prince Shoes - These were the first shoes I ever owned and I woudln't hesitate to buy another pair. Great workmanship. I've worn a hole in the bottom of mine and need to get them resoled. I know that Billy has since turned the business over to his nephew. He had a booth at the World Clown Convention last week, but I didn't get his contact information.
Capri Shoes - This is my newest pair or shoes so the jury is still "out" on these. I loved the customer service. I love the look of the shoe but the ones I ordered are very different than most clown shoes. I've only worn them 3 times ....so too early for me to rate.(
Capri Shoes)
Wayne Scott Shoes - I've never owned a pair of these, but have never heard anything negative about them either.
I would stay away from all of the imitations.......save your pennies and work up to the best!
