Default B.A. Rascal's Costume (In the works)

Alright so many of you have probably already seen my thread in the "Newbies" section about me creating a hobo character.

This is Blimey Aloisius Rascal IV (Or B.A. Rascal for short). He was born in the back of a boxcar somewhere between Arkansas and Oklahoma. His father is B.A. Rascal III and his mother is Josephene Trampoline. He comes from a long line of Rascal's. He learned his only skill from His Grandmother Louise Trapeze(she was a real swinger) and that is the fine art of Pie stealing.

He was born into the Hobo/Wanderer way of life and he has never known any other way of living. He lives from day to day, from town to town, getting by with whatever handouts he can get, and whatever odd Jobs he can do.

Well today I started working on part of the costume with my Clown-loving Grandmother.

Here is my original sketch.

And here is the first part of the costume that we have made.

I will continue to update this page with more pictures until B.A. Rascal is fully clothed.

Comments/Critique along the way is welcomed!

RD -

I love the hat - the top torn out like that... Nice touch!

Can't wait to see the whole thing! I am wondering if you shouldn't put a liner in the hat though - with the color of your hair it's not quite as noticable that there is a huge hole in the top of your hat! I almost didn't notice it myself.

I agree! At first I thought the ripped out bit was actually a decoration of some kind attached to your head (until I looked closer!). The ripped (or beat up beyond repair) hat is almost a necessity for a hobo and should be very obvious. I would go with a top hat instead. Open it like a can lid leaving about 3 or 4 inches attached. You could prop the top up with a match or something too (with some hidden tape). Also, think of all the different things a hobo might use his hat for, the hat can be all sorts of things. An umbrella, a friend, a handkerchief, a stove, a pocket. You can reach into the top hole and pull out a can of sardines or something. The tie is great! I am looking forward to seeing BA Rascal come alive.

Thanks for the tips guys... I hadn't thought of using a different color inside of the hat... But now that you mention it I think I should totally do that... The Hat is just one of those costumey felt board type hats that I actually cut the top out of for when I played "Pappy Yokum" in the show "Lil' Abner". I think I could possibly paint the inside of it a different color.

I actually kind of like the Bowler though... its kind of like an ode to Chaplain.
