The general "rule" for a whiteface you paint your upper lip white and your lower one the color or your "mouth," for you that would be red Check.

I went to a smaller puff (you can get them like 10 to a pack at the drugstore) which accomplishes the same thing without having to use the bigger puff. The Mehron Puff, ironically, doesn't fit neatly into the Mehron powder container, forcing you to waste powder one way or another.

Sorry I didn't make the question clear, but I've started an auguste face, here is a pic...

Yep. The usual for an auguste, which I am, is either black or red. My top lip is white, the bottom is red, and I have a very fine line of black to define/highlight the lower side of the lower lip.
I know my avitar picture doen't show it well, but if you view my profile, in the other pic, you can see what I'm talking about better.

There is indeed a link between lung damage/disease and inhaling baby powder. Most likely talc based powders, but I can't recall the details off hand. You can probably research it via webmd, or google, etc...
Bert's Bees makes a natural alternative to baby powder; but I've never used it for setting so no ide how it'd work. Corn starch based powders are likely less risky; but again, I don't know how effective they are for this use. In the end, they'll probably not be any cheaper than a setting powder that is made for that purpose - I've never really looked at setting powder ingredients.
(I use baby powder as I don't go in face much - most of my performances are magic/stilt/juggle - so I only go in make-up a handful of times per year these days...)

generally, Cornstarch based products won't set makeup. It's like setting your makeup with Flour.

I just looked at your pic Check. I like the look of your eyes but I am not sure where you are going with your mouth. Right now there is no "smile," you have the muzzle, and even the red on the outside doesn't look too bad, but it is missing a "mouth."

I put the grease on both lips - that way I never have to worry about smudging. It works well for my face but not all faces

Any suggestions on making a smile? I have a goatee that I have to work around. I'd like to try and cover that up. Open for suggestions

If you go to my website LaughingstockPro.com 574-904-9643 LaughingstockPro@yahoo.com Dan Langwell as Fitzwilly the Clown and look at the dorkie picture of me on the right, you can get a look at the way I do my mouth. I just make a larger lower lip somewhat squared off. You could try doing something like that only smaller so that it didn't interfere with you gotee too much. Then you could add small black pips at the upper corners of your mouth and leave the rest the way it is, and see how you like it.
