Default Powdering

What kind of powder should I use to set my make up? What do you use?

I use Baby Powder and put it in a sock. Shake it and it covers everything and I do mean everything! It might be a good idea to go outside or the basement. LOL Works great some others in my alley use a giant powder puff with baby powder either way works and then just brush off the excess then spritz your face with water and blot dry if you want to really pop your colors I can stand it the shower after using powder and it does not run

I used to use the sock method, but then some other, more experienced clowns warned me that that the sock method made me prone to black lung disease (like coal miners get). They said that the powder puff method reduced the amount of powder I'd be inhaling.

Does anybody know the risks associated with powder inhalation?

Either way, I try to take a deep breath before I powder and to hold my breath until I get the powder brushed off.

I also have to close my eyes, to prevent a powder haze from coating my contact lenses!

Whoever dreamed that there would be so many occupational hazards with clowning?!

I use baby powder too. Make sure you get the kind without cornstarch. I've used the sock and a puff. I like the sock better.

Doesn't the sock method touch the grease paint and mess it up? I used the mehron set powder with a brush and I kinda smeared the graese paint. How can I prevent smudging from happening?

Make sure you don't rub the sock or powder puff on your skin. Pat it. It shouldn't smear if you're patting it.

Also make sure there is enough powder on the brush, puff, or sock.

Before you start with the sock tap it on your hand to make sure that there is plenty of powder coming through the sock. Lightly pat your face covering it with powder then you can go back and press the powder into the makeup. Just make sure you don't slide the sock across the makeup.

Hey Fitz, I thought you were against the sock method?

I know I'm probably doing this wrong, but Bubbles and I do our whole faces, in all the colors, then set all at once. It wasn't a problem when we were using baby powder, but now we've gone to a "real" setting powder. We use Neutra set and notice that the colors will blend a bit. Whites now end up with some flesh tone in them. Nothing else about our powdering has changed.

Also, can anyone offer tips on powdering the eyelids? I must not be setting them well enough, because I will always get marks in the lids from blinking. It's not real attractive, and it's visible when I alter the shape of my eyes.

I use sort of a rythym of wacking the sock on my hand and then smacking my face with it. Back and forth until I am covered. It is quick and messy. Outside is best for this method. That is for full face. For the lighter look I have a little dish with the baby powder and a cotton ball that I dip into it. A well seasoned cotton ball seems to be best.

I think a key is to pat the powder in very well on your face before you brush it off.

I also believe the powder lung thing is an urban myth.
