Default Gloves

Hi All!
Just wanting to get your opinion again. How important is it to wear gloves while in clown? My character has light auguste make-up. I know that in competition it can be very important. I am not talking competition, just your average ministry clown stuff. I don't want to hear the "rules", I am all for bending them when needed. I am more worried about maintaining character for my audience.

I do wear a wedding ring that I never take off (simple gold band), does not covering that with gloves, fingerless or otherwise pose a problem in real life. Considering of course that my charater is a little girl-type.

I don't know about others, but I wear them, but when I do certain magic tricks, I will take them off. While twisting balloons, it just depends. I wear the fingertip-less type and I can still twist with them on, so it just depends on my mood at the time.

I like wearing them, as they seem to be a finishing touch to complete my outfit/look. Like everything else it's mostly personal choice.

personally, I don't wear gloves. Only if I am on stage for a big show, I don't do magic with gloves on. I have done all types of make up but did not work in gloves.

To me I would say no. you don't need them and kids are not going to notice a ring they are focused on you. If you are going to be twisting balloons I cant wear them at all so they have to come off. But I also think you have to do what suits you best. Others can tell you their opinion but you have to be confortable.

For your character, I'm thinking no gloves would be fine.

Personally, I like to use fingerless gloves as it helps provide a little contrast to the flesh which I think helps add a nice touch.

If the kids ask about the ring you could be prepared with a story...either you are married to sponge bob square pants or whatever.

I hate to wear gloves. I used to try to wear them everywhere I went, but I'd always end up shedding them within a few minutes of arriving. I was taught that a proper clown always wears gloves, but I simply cannot do balloons or magic wearing gloves. I figure, a clown does what he/she needs to do -- with or without gloves.

If you're worried about the wedding ring, just wear a "3-Carrot ring" on the same finger. I can't imagine kids would ask about your ring, but if you're wearing a funny clown ring on the same finger, they will never notice.

I used to always wear gloves, but found them to be annoying to take off and put on. I was always losing them too. I haven't worn gloves in years. I will wear if and when I get professional pics taken.

Thanks everyone. I was leaning toward not getting gloves at this point.

Or better yet, buy a 3 carrot ring and super glue the top of it to your wedding ring. I'm sure your husband wouldn't mind...

Kids are so willing to "suspend their disbelief" and accept the wildest things when it means having fun. Think of all the things in cartoons and kids movies. They know its fake but they enjoy pretending its real. If you walk like a clown, talk like a clown, and think of yourself like a clown, then the kids will play right along and have a great time doing it.
