Yet another nose question
I'm having a nose dilemma.
I have two noses. One is a Jim Howle 1C and the other is a ProKnows CL. My avatar pic has me wearing the ProKnows. And you should know that I took my Dremel tool to it to get it to be the shape that it is. I significantly reduced the height of the nose, meaning I cut the part that goes up the bridge of my nose.
Here's my problem -- I like the way the ProKnows fits. I like the liquid adhesive better than the nose putty, and the ProKnows just feels more secure on my schnoz. I like the way the Howle looks. To me, it just looks more "clowny." I like that it's rounder, and more bulbous. I don't like the nose putty I'm using. Out here in the Texas heat, a little sweat and that putty's a goner. Also, I don't like that it's hollow. It feels very empty.
And now to my question. Is there a way to fill the Howle nose with a foam that would allow me to custom fit it like the ProKnows? If so, any suggestions on foam type and process would be most welcome.
Thanks!

I had one that had space in it once. I didn't like the space but it was a character nose by pro nose. There were not choices.
I used a cotton ball and pushed it in as flat as it would go then gave it a few coated of the nose glue, letting it dry in between. You know how that stuff sticks. It felt just like the build up you get in one anyways.
I never had to clean it like I do my regular one because I only wore it a christmas time. So I don't know if it would clean good or not. You might have to replace the cotten every once and a while.

Wowza,
I don't have a howle but, after seeing them at the spring fling I found out that they are very similar to my old Don Post. I have had similar problems Especially with condensation.
I put a cotton makeup square in the end of my nose and when it in the makeup box I keep an old vinyl clip on nose shoved in the end. It helps the nose keep its shape and helps to pack that cotton square in as tight as possible. I have no problem with the condensation and like you, I like the "clowny" look of the thing. In fact, I haven't found a Proknows or a Howle that I like the look of yet.
As far as holding in on, I recommend the tape that Leon sells. I clean my own nose with an alcohol wipe, to remove makeup and powder, apply the tape to the nose on the bridge area and most recently, a dot on the underside between the nostrils. When It's on; It stays there! In fact, it can often be down right painful to remove!
I do carry extra tapes and wipes in my little card wallet. But I rarely use them.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Scruffy

The cotton is a good idea, but as usually by brain fired up jumped the tracks and dereailed and I came up with two others (not necessarily good ideas, just ides). In the craft section buy a small section of cushion foam or even a makeup/face painting sponge and use your dremel to shape so that it fits inside your Jim Howle nose then glue in place or not. The second is to buy a small can of "Great Stuff" foaming insulation in a can. It is sticky so you probably would want to mask off the outside of your nose until dry. I would probably use the low volume expanding variety because otherwise a little goes a very long way; and then again Dremel to the rescue for the shape to fit.

I would worry on the insulating foam about poss. oder or chemical residue that might be irritating. My nose is abused enough.

I thought about the "Great Stuff" foam, Fitz, and even had a can at home ready to go. Unfortunately, that stuff is one use per can, and the nozzle sealed itself shut. I was also concerned about odors and chemical residue, as Coco has stated.
I really was thinking about a more permanent "ProKnowsification" of my Howle nose. I'll have to investigate other foam inserts and then try my hand at Dremeling out a spot for my nose. I'll definitely keep you posted. I'm working this weekend, so I'll try and post a pic of me in my Howle for comparison purposes.

Well, for "Proknowsification" there are two types of latex foams used in the special effects industry that I know of. There is a cold foam and a hot foam technique. I have not used either becuase I have not tried designing my own prothetics. From what I was told you basically mix part a and part b and then pour in a mold, in your case the nose. Leon now uses a non-latex foam. Try calling the local college theatre department. Let me see if I can find any more info.
Hopefully, more to come.

Wowza. Go tot he hardware Store and buy a pint of Acetone. After you are finished with the great stuff, remove the nozzle and drizzle acetone down the nozzle. It will melt the stuff before it hardens. also, apply a bit to the end of the can's nozzle. I have done this and been able to use the same can many times. It works well to get the stuff off of your hands also.
Good Luck,
Scruffy
