Red face I Humbly Beg for Costume Insight

Hello and Howdy Do!

This is all VERY new to me, and I haven't put much thought into a costume until the raging brainstorm that hit last night. Any comments or ideas are MOST welcome. This is just a beginning idea, and I hope to throw in a sketch when I get a chance.

I'm working on a character that I think I'll call "String Bean." I'm tall and thin (5' 12" and, well, about 30 pounds more than college), and my friend's dad always calls me String Bean (to which I've always called him Watermelon--w/his permission).

String Bean will probably have high-water, baggy overalls--probably denim--and a loud jacket that sort of hangs on me. I haven't started looking yet, so we'll see. I picture a straight-haired pink wig (I could find the "Stephanie" wig from "Lazy Town"...). Face makeup would be the red mouth, red painted nose (I'm not 100% comfy with the idea of a clown nose--yet), light-brown freckles, hearts on the cheeks, and something that will work around my glasses. I have those black rectangle frames that are so popular now.

I'll get some colored (mismatched) knee-high socks to wear w/my Converse All Star high-tops that are black w/hot pink tongue (yes, they made them in my ski-size--wahoo!).

I'm thinking that a solid, yet mind-numbingly bright-shirt for under the overalls would be cool, assuming I can find the "right" jacket.

An alternative I've thought about is to alter a pair of jeans that I have. I've lost a few pounds of post-pregnancy weight, and this fairly new pair is very loose. I could sew on patches from fun printed fabrics and then use a rope belt--or one of those fancy cords that you knot at the end and fray out.

I'm not very handy with a sewing machine. I can do basic work, but that's it.

Thanks in advance for any help. I now submit this and humbly bow to the worldly experience of you wonderful clowns!

Christina
